• WM010-015 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a slight rise in fairly well drained grass-land with good views of the surrounding countryside. Stream marking townland boundary with Conlanstown 145m to NW. Rock Brook house 250m to S. Ringfort (WM010-016----) 240m to SSE. On the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map an old laneway is shown running NW from Rock Brook towards the W side of the ringfort. An unusually large slightly raised circular-shaped area (approx. diam. 75m NW-SE; 74m NE-SW) enclosed by a poorly preserved earth and stone bank mainly reduced to a scarp. The bank is fragmentary and has several disturbance gaps of post-1700 date. Original entrance feature not identified. The interior rises towards the centre. • WM010-016 Barrow - mound barrow
  Description

  Situated on grassland 150m E of Rock Brook House. Outlined as a circular earthwork on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map with possible mound-barrow (WM010-045----) 110m to the S. Not depicted as an antiquity on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map. No surface remains visible of levelled earthwork which appears to have been a landscape feature associated with Rock-Brook House. Depicted in a similar fashion to the mound-barrow (WM010-045----) which may suggest that this earthwork was originally a mound barrow. • WM010-045 Barrow - mound barrow
  Description

  Situated on grassland 210m SE of Rock Brook House. Outlined as a circular earthwork on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map with similar earthwork (WM010-016----) 110m to the N. Not depicted as an antiquity on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map. Present remains consist of a circular shaped mound (diam. 17m) defined by a scarp with a shallow external fosse. There are traces of cultivation ridges on the mound and in the surrounding field. It is possible that it is a mound-barrow which was landscaped as a tree ring associated with Rock Brook House in the post-1700 period.   Description

  Medieval octagonal-shaped limestone baptismal font in the grounds of the 19th-century Roman Catholic Church (NIAH Reg. No. 15307022) at Ballynacarrigy, Co. Westmeath.  According to the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage the medieval font may have been taken from Tristernagh Abbey (WM011-053----) located 4km to the NE.  Another possibility is that the baptismal font was taken from the medieval chapel (WM011-051----) of Templecross in the townland of Tristernagh.    Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien   Date of Compilation: 10 November 2025
