• WM032-043 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Monument surveyed by ASI in 1977 and described as following; 'The site is densely overgrown with trees and thorn bushes and is difficult to examine. The site is a broad oval enclosure bounded by a low broad bank of earth and stone. There seems to be a narrow fosse outside the bank on the N but this is absent elsewhere. A modern laneway runs E-W past the site to the S and there is a drystone wall revetted scarp against the outside of the site on that side. There is no sign of an original entrance. The interior is densely overgrown but seems to be fairly even except for a small low mound to the NW of centre. The interior seems to rise gently towards the centre from the N and S. No features are visible. A modern field wall runs N-S past the site on the E and NE. The site occupies the top of a small hill in undulating pasture land. • WM032-044 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Monument surveyed by ASI in 1977 and described as following; 'This site has been largely destroyed. All that remains intact is the SE segment of what may originally have been a circular (?) embankment (diam. 17m N-S). A modern field wall runs E-W across the site on the N and nothing is visible of the site to the N of this. Another field fence runs E-W just S of the site, and a modern post and wire fence runs across the site on the W and the perimeter of the site seems to have been incorporated in a field fence on the E. The site is not marked as an antiquity on the 1912 ed. OS 6-inch map but is shown as a sub-rectangular field. The site as it survives consists of a flat central area with a scarp at its E and S sides which drops to a narrow flattish area before falling again in another outer scarp. There is some evidence for a slight bank of earth and stone at the upper edge of this second outer scarp. There is a fosse at the foot of the outer scarp on the S but it seems to be associated with the modern E-W field fence which runs here; there is no fosse on the E. An old field bank runs from the modern field fence to the perimeter of the site on the SE. There is no indication of an original entrance. There is a good deal of stone visible in the edge of the inner scarp on the S. The interior is level and no features are visible. The E side of the interior and the perimeter on E and S are overgrown with trees, thorn bushes and briars. The site is on a rise in fairly good pasture land. • WM032-045 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Monument surveyed by ASI in 1978 and described as following; 'An irregular broad oval area outlined by an irregular scarp. The perimeter has been adapted all around to form field fences and has been modified and the scarp enclosed with stone walls. The original perimeter seems to be preserved on the NE-N-NW just inside the stone wall. On the N-NW there is a bank of earth and stone at the top of the scarp but this may be a late feature. There is no indication of an original entrance but there are modern entrances on the NE and W. The interior is overgrown with tall grass and weeds and some bushes and it is very difficult to examine. It seems to be very uneven and there are large stones lying on the surface, probably dumped there. The interior slopes from W to E. The perimeter is overgrown with trees and bushes except on the NE. The site is on the E slope of a ridge with extensive views to the N, S and to the E and with slightly higher ground to the W.' (SMR File 30/06/1978).
