  Description

  Monument surveyed by ASI in 1977 and described as following; 'The site consists of a large subrectangular enclosure with a smaller sub-rectangular enclosure attached to it on the N, bounded by a bank of earth and stone. The bank of the S enclosure is best preserved on the W and it is faint on the S and E. The bank of the N enclosure is best preserved on the NW. There is no indication of an external fosse. The bank between the two enclosures has a somewhat fresher appearance than the other banks and there is a narrow shallow fosse on its S side. This fosse starts inside the external bank on the W and continues through the site, bank on the E. There is a large depression just E of the N enclosure into which the fosse runs. There is a gap in the bank of the S enclosure just S of the N enclosure on the W side, but it is not clear if this is an original entrance feature. The interior of the N enclosure is slightly uneven. There is a small boulder at its centre which marked 'Standing Stone' (WM032-030001-) on the 1912 ed. OS 6-inch map, its purpose is unclear. The interior of the S enclosure is also rather uneven and there are a number of small stony hummocks in the central area. These may be no more than old field clearance heaps as no coherent pattern can be discerned. A modern field fence runs N-S past the site just E of it. The site is on a slight rise in fairly level land of fairly good pasture. There is a small valley to the E of the site. There are fairly good views to the N and W’ (SMR File 20/06/1977).   Description

  This monument was inspected in 1976 and described as follows: 'At the E end of a small, low E-W ridge in good pasture with extensive views to the W. A large, roughly oval-shaped area (diam. 57m N-S; 66m E-W) defined by an earth and stone bank visible from W-N-E only. There are faint traces of an outer fosse visible from W-N-E only. The bank is best preserved from N-E and on the W. The bank is defaced at NE and NW by animal tracks and there is no indication of an original entrance. The interior slopes from NW to SE' (SMR file).   Description

  Detached three-bay two-storey house, built c.1810, having a single-bay gable-fronted entrance porch to the centre of the front façade (northeast), a blank walled extension to the east end and a two-storey return to the centre of the rear elevation (southwest). Pitched natural slate roof, hipped over extension to the east end, with rendered chimneystacks to either end having terracotta pots over. Cast-iron rainwater goods. Roughcast rendered walls over smooth rendered plinth. Square-headed window openings having cut stone sills and with eight-over-eight pane timber sliding sash windows to ground floor openings and four-over-eight pane timber sliding sash windows to the first floor openings. Round-headed doorcase to the front face of projecting porch having cut stone block-and-start doorcase with fluted lintel and fluted keystone detail over, timber door and with a spoke fanlight over. Doorcase flanked to either side by round-headed sidelights having Gothic style timber glazing bars. Set back from road in own grounds to the east of Castletown Geoghegan with complex of single-storey outbuildings to the rear (southwest).
