• WM033-056 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on fairly level pasture with good views in all directions. Nearby mound (WM033-060----) located 65m to the SW. All that remains of this levelled monument is a curving stretch of a field boundary which preserves the SW section of the enclosing bank of the ringfort (diam. c. 40m N-S). Depicted as a circular enclosure with a field boundary running NW-SE across the SW quadrant on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map. An earlier site report from 1971 described the upstanding monument as the 'much disturbed remains of a bivallate rath with one intervening fosse. The banks and fosse are best preserved from W to N, elsewhere the perimeter has been largely removed or obscured by later banks and depressions. One of the banks crosses the site on the S side, a later bank forms a drop outside the site at E. The original entrance way is not recognisable.   Description

  On a gentle E facing slope of hill with good views to the N and E. Ringfort (WM033-055----) located 185m to the W. Circular-shaped area (diam. 52m N-S; 62m E-W) defined by a substantial earth and stone bank and wide flat-bottomed fosse with traces of a low external bank only visible at ENE.   This monument has been levelled and is not visible at ground level. Nearby ringfort (WM033-056----) located 65m to the NE. Depicted as a small mound-like earthwork on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map. • WM033-063 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On level ground with good views to the S. Ringfort (WM033-059---) 260m to the NW. Only the N half of a circular ringfort which is bisected by the Tyrrellspass-Rochfortbridge road (R446) is depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map. The N and S enclosing element of the ringfort is depicted on the 1910 ed. OS 25-inch map. Only the S half of the ringfort is visible today and consists of a D-shaped area defined by a poorly preserved earthen bank and external fosse with public road forming straight side of D-shaped area at N. • WM033-065 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  In pasture on high ground with extensive views to N and E. Ringfort (WM033-066----) 210m to the E, and second ringfort (WM033-063----) 420m to the NNW. Roughly sub-rectangular-shaped area (dims. 54.8m N-S; 44.7m E-W) defined by an earth and stone bank covered with trees and bushes with shallow external fosse. There is no indication of an original entrance feature and there are several gaps in the bank especially at S, all of which appear to be modern. The bank is best preserved from W-N and the fosse is well preserved from N-NE. A large concrete base for a silage pit has been constructed in the W quadrant of the ringfort interior.
