  Description

  No surface remains visible of levelled ringfort which is depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure intersected at N by a townland boundary running roughly E-W. The townland boundary and the ringfort are not depicted in this field on subsequent editions of the OS 6 inch maps. • WM012-110 Ritual site - holy well
  Description

  Depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map and annotated as ‘St. Patrick’s Well’. Situated in a small depression in marshy ground at the foot of a ridge. A semi-circular setting of limestone slabs (max. H 0.5m) enclosing a spring well, with stream which flows out from an opening at SW. Some coins noted in the water at the time of the ASI site visit in 1981. A footpath leading to the well from S which is indicated on the 6-inch map, looks like a sunken road on the Digital Globe aerial photograph taken November 2011.   Situated near the summit of a hill in grassland with wide views of the surrounding countryside. Ringfort (WM012-112---) 150m to SSE. A circular slightly raised area (approx. diam. 24m E-W) defined by a scarp and enclosed by a very shallow external fosse only visible at W. • WM012-112 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on the summit of a high ridge in undulating grassland with wide views of the surrounding countryside. Ringfort (WM012-111---) 150m to NNW. A circular shaped area (approx. diam. 41m N-S; 40m E-W) enclosed by two earth and stone banks with an intervening fosse. The inner bank is substantial and best preserved at N, the fosse is wide and deep and the outer bank is low and fragmentary. At E quarrying has levelled the banks, fosse and part of the interior. At W there is a wide break in the inner bank, a narrow gap in the outer bank and a disturbed irregular causeway across the fosse, although these appear to be of recent origin. The interior slopes gently towards the E. In the W quadrant of the interior a low mound is visible, which could be the remains of a house site (WM012-112001-).   Description

  Situated on ESE facing slope of a broad ridge in hilly grassland, with fairly restricted views. Kilmaglish House stands 240m to NW. Depicted on the 1837 OS Fair Plan map as a roughly circular shaped earthwork annotated ‘fort’. Poorly preserved monument that has been partially levelled. Present remains consist of a large sub-circular shaped raised area (approx. diam. 46m N-S; 50m E-W) enclosed by a wide fosse (Wth 6.1m; D 0.45m).   Situated on SSE facing slope of prominent rise in grassland with fairly good views in all directions. Ringfort (WM012-118---) 350m to NW. Depicted on the 1837 OS Fair plan map as an oval shaped earthwork with its long axis N-S, annotated ‘fort’. Poorly preserved monument on which the N half has been levelled as depicted on the revised 1911 ed. OS 25-inch map. Present remains consist of a semi-circular area defined by a curving bank visible from E-S-NW (approx. diam. 20m E-W) and wide flat bottomed external fosse as depicted on the 25-inch OS map. • WM012-122 Chapel
  Description

  Situated in woodland on the N side of the public road which marks the townland boundary with Ballynagall. A quarry is located E of the site. On the N side of Kilmaglish graveyard (WM012-122001-) are the poorly preserved remains of an ivy-covered rectangular chapel (approx. dims. 14.6m E-W; 7.3m N-S; wall T 0.7m; max. H 1.25m). The chapel was entered through a destroyed doorway (Wth 1.1m) in the S wall located off centre to W. The N wall of the chapel forms the N boundary wall of the graveyard. The headstone belonging to Charles William Lewinge of Levington Park who died in 1868 has been erected against the inner face of the N wall of the church directly opposite the doorway. No other features visible. Possibly the remains of a C of I church dating from the 17th or 18th century.   Description

  Kilmaglish graveyard situated in woodland on the N side of the public road which marks the townland boundary with Ballynagall. A quarry is located E and W of the site. A D-shaped graveyard (approx. dims. 30m N-S x 37m E-W) with chapel (WM012-122---) forming N boundary of graveyard which is enclosed by a stone wall of 19th century date. The graveyard contains headstones of post-1700 date. The remains of a C of I church possibly dating from the 17th or 18th century stands in N quadrant of graveyard.   Description

  Situated at S end of low ridge overlooking Ballynagall Lough which has been drained 50m to SW with good views of the surrounding countryside. Kilmaglish graveyard (WM012-122001-) and chapel (WM012-122----) 200m to NW. Cultivation ridges running roughly N-S in field immediately to N. Raised oval-shaped enclosure (approx. diam. 30m NW-SE) defined by a low bank mainly reduced to a scarp. The interior is uneven with a shallow hollow depression in N quadrant which could be the result of post-1700 quarrying. No entrance feature visible.
