Description
In woodland with ringfort (WM012-009----) 115m to E. Depicted on the 1st. ed. OSi 6-inch map a circular-shaped area (diam. c. 36m) defined by a scarp transected at N by a field boundary running on a NE-SW axis. Depicted as a semi-circular shaped rise of ground in the N corner of a woodland plantation on the OSi 25-inch map. - WM012-009 Ringfort - rath
Description
Situated on S facing slope of a ridge running NW-SE in modern forestry plantation. Earthwork (WM012-008----) 120m to W. Lough Derravarragh 470m to E. A sub-circular shaped area (approx. diam. 28m N-S) enclosed by a low bank of earth and stone ( max. H 1m) and a shallow external fosse with entrance gap at SE (Wth. 3.3m). The interior slopes sharply from NE-SW. Field banks running NE-SW intersect the perimeter of the monument at N and S. The site is now in inside an area of modern coniferous forestry.
