• WM031-073 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated in undulating pasture. Ringfort (WM031-074----) lies c. 135m to SE. Depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map as a D-shaped earthwork (overall dims. 40m N-S; 35m E-W) with a straight side to S. Depicted on the 1910 ed. OS 25-inch map as a ‘Gravel Pit’. Levelled monument is visible today on Digital Globe aerial photography as a faint light-green coloured D-shaped cropmark consistent with the depiction of the gravel pit on the OS 25-inch map. • WM031-074 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated in low-lying, wet pasture, with good views of the surrounding landscape. A stream flows close to N and E. Ringfort (WM031-073----) lies c. 135m to NW. Depicted on the 1837 OS Fair Plan map as a circular-shaped earthwork. Monument described in 1973 as a roughly circular-shaped platform (diam. 35m) defined by an irregular bank which is low and is almost reduced to a scarp. The interior is relatively level with the outline of two possible house sites (WM031-074001-). A low bank projects from the bank at S and joins the end of one of the house sites. Monument is visible today as an oval-shaped, partly tree-covered earthwork on Digital Globe aerial photography. Compiled by Alison McQueen, Vera Rahilly and Caimin O’Brien. • WM031-074001 House - indeterminate date
  Description

  Situated in low-lying, wet pasture, with good views of the surrounding landscape. A stream flows close to N and E. In the centre of ringfort (WM031-074001-) are two roughly rectangular-shaped house sites or one house with two rooms. This building may be the structure depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map.
