  Description

  Situated on top of a high steep-sided oval-shaped hill, in low-lying wet grass-land. Good views to S, W, and N. Poorly preserved remains of a possible ringfort that has been largely removed by quarrying. Depicted on the 1837 OS Fair Plan map as a circular-shaped enclosure and annotated on map as ‘fort’. This monument has been almost completely levelled. All that remains is a short segment of scarp (average H 2.1m) at WNW. Elsewhere the site is pitted with quarry holes and burrows. • WM016-039 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a slight rise in low lying wet grassland, stream marking townland boundary with Calliaghstown lies 115m to W. Ringfort (WM016-040---) 170m to S. A large oval shaped area (approx. diam. 45m NW-SE; 40m NE-SW) enclosed by a two earthen banks with an intervening fosse. The inner bank is low and fragmentary; the fosse is visible from NW-NE, at W and at SSE. The very slight external counterscarp bank is visible from NW-NNE. The interior has a slight slope from N-S.   Description

  Situated on a natural rise in low-lying wet grassland, with good views in all directions. Stream marking townland boundary with Carricknagower lies 230m to S. Ringfort (WM016-039---) 170m to N. A sub-circular shaped area (approx. diam. 25m NW-SE; 22m NE-SW) enclosed by a low poorly preserved earthen bank and a slight external fosse.   Description

  Situated on a small steep-sided round-topped natural rise surrounded by low lying wet grassland. Depicted on the 1837 OS Fair Plan map as a circular shaped enclosure annotated on map as ‘fort’. Depicted as a partial enclosure on the revised 1914 ed. OS 6-inch map. This site has been almost completely levelled. All that remains is a curving scarp visible from W-N-NNE (H 1.2m). A field fence running E-W bisects the monument. No visible remains of enclosing element of monument on S side of bisecting field fence. • WM023-020 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on the SSE-facing slope of a slight rise, in low-lying, wet pasture, with good views all around. Monument described in 1970s as a subcircular-shaped area (dims.30m N-S; 28.3m E-W) enclosed by a bank and external fosse with causewayed entrance gap (Wth at top 3.3m; basal Wth 1.6m) at SW. The bank is best preserved from SSE-S-SSW and is almost reduced to a scarp from SSW-W-NW and from E-SSE. The bank has been levelled and reduced to a slight scarp from NW-N-E. The external fosse is reasonably well preserved from E-SE and from S-W-NW. There are large field clearance boulders within the fosse at S and W. The interior has a gentle SE-facing slope and there is a quarry depression within the N quadrant. The enclosing bank of the ringfort survives today only from E-S-W where it is visible on Digital Globe aerial photographs. Compiled by Alison McQueen, Vera Rahilly and Caimin O’Brien.   Description

  Detached three-bay two-storey house, built c.1815, with canted-bay windows to the ground floor openings. Hipped natural slate roof with rendered chimneystacks and cast-iron rainwater goods. Wet dash rendered walls over plinth course. Square-headed window openings with rendered surrounds, cut stone sills and replacement timber windows. Round-headed door opening with rendered block-and-start surround having blocks to base and a plain fanlight over. House set within mature garden with pastures to north and south. Farm complex to rear and main entrance to the east. Located to the west of Ballymore.
