• WM026-055 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a low rise in undulating pasture. Annotated ‘Fort’ on the 1837 OS Fair Plan map and depicted as a circular-shaped earthwork. Shown as a grove of trees on the revised 1913 ed. OS 25-inch map. Monument described in 1983 as no surface remains visible. The site would be suitable for a ringfort.   Description

  Situated on a low rise, in relatively low-lying pasture, which is overlooked by higher ground to NW, N and E. Ringfort (WM026-064----) lies c. 160m to ENE. Annotated ‘Fort’ on the OS Fair Plan map and depicted as a roughly circular-shaped earthwork. Monument described in 1971 as no surface remains visible. • WM026-064 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on gentle SW-facing slope, in low-lying pasture. Ringfort (WM026-063----) lies c. 160m to WSW. Depicted on the revised 1913 ed. OS 25-inch map as a subcircular-shaped earthwork in a coppice of trees. Monument described in 1971 as a subcircular-shaped area (dims. 30.2m N-S; approx. 29m E-W) enclosed by a bank and external fosse. The bank is high and steep on the exterior and is almost reduced to a scarp. A large portion of the bank has been removed at W leaving a concave indent and there is a small quarry hole in the exterior at E. A modern field fence running NNE-SSW extends outside the base of the bank from NE-E-SE. There is a very wide gap in the bank at SE where the fosse is obscured by vegetation. The fosse is wide and shallow. A house site (WM026-064001-) is visible in the N quadrant. Levelled monument visible today as a cropmark on Digital Globe aerial photography.   Description

  In N quadrant of ringfort (WM026-064----) are vague traces of a rectangular-shaped house site (dims. 5.8m NW-SE; 3.9m NE-SW) defined by a very low and fragmentary bank (Wth 1.1m; H 0.2m). The bank incorporates a large stone at the NW end. The entrance is not recognisable. The interior has several slight humps and hollows of unknown significance.   Description

  Situated in pasture, 170m SW of Anneville House. Enclosure (WM026-065----) lies c. 95m to N Depicted on the revised 1913 ed. OS 25-inch map as a circular-shaped earthwork (approx. diam. 25m) in a coppice of trees. Townland boundary with Anneville or Rathduff lies to the immediate N.
