  Description

  Situated on the edge of a steep high scarp with extensive views from S-W-N. A small slightly raised oval shaped area (approx. diam. 26m NE-SW) enclosed by a substantial earthen bank and deep external fosse. The bank is well preserved from NNE-S-SW. The fosse has been disturbed by rabbit burrows. There is an entrance gap (Wth 2.3m) at SE. The monument is now located in a plantation of trees visible on Digital Globe aerial photograph taken November 2011. See attached profile of monument surveyed and drawn by the ASI. • WM012-068 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on SE facing slope of a prominent hill with good views from NE-E-SW, overlooked by higher ground to NW. This site has been almost completely levelled. A sub-circular shaped area (approx. diam. 36m N-S; 41m E-W) enclosed by a two very low broad banks, an intervening fosse and an external fosse. The interior slopes slightly from NW-SE. A post-1837 field fence intersects the perimeter at NE. The S perimeter of the monument has been quarried away at S. This site is now situated in a coniferous forestry plantation which is visible on Digital Globe aerial photograph taken November 2011. See attached profile of monument surveyed and drawn by the ASI.   Description

  Situated on S facing slope of a high ridge in hilly grassland, with good views to the SE and SW. Ringfort (WM012-133---) 70m to ESE. This site has been almost completely levelled and is now only visible as a faint crop mark on Digital Globe aerial photograph taken November 2011. Depicted on the 1837 OS Fair Plan map as a circular shaped earthwork annotated as a ‘fort’. Described in 1970 as consisting of a circular shaped area (approx. diam. 30m NW-SE; 30.5m NE-SW) enclosed by a very poorly preserved earthen bank and external fosse. The bank is visible from NNW-N-E.   Description

  Situated on SSW facing slope of a high ridge in hilly grassland, with good views good view from SE-S -SW. Ringfort (WM012-132---) 70m to WNW. A circular shaped area (approx. diam. 33m NW-SE) enclosed by a substantial earthen bank and deep external fosse. The bank is best preserved from NW-NNE and from E-SE and has several disturbance gaps. The fosse has been infilled from SE-S-WSW. Traces of cultivation ridges are visible running WNW-ESE across the interior, which slopes from NW-SE. There is an entrance gap (Wth 1.95m) at SSE, with stone facing visible at the WSW side of the entrance. A field fence running E-W intersects the N side of the monument. • WM012-134 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a prominent knoll on the lower W face of a large ridge, with good views to from S-W-NW. The stream which marks the townland boundary with Knockatee lies 100m to SW. Ringfort (WM012-135---) 50m to E. Depicted as an oval shaped enclosure on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map with ‘Mountain R.C. Chapel’ immediately to the SE. The monument is shown as a kidney shaped earthwork on 1911 ed. OS 25-inch map indicating that the E quadrant of the site was partially quarried away between these map dates. This poorly preserved site has been substantially levelled by quarrying. Now visible as an elongated scarped oval shaped area (approx. diam. 40m N-S; 15m E-W) enclosed by a poorly preserved bank of earth and stone. Quarrying has removed part of the NE quadrant and a small portion of the perimeter at W. There is an entrance gap (Wth 2.3m) and a sloping causeway (Wth 2.1m; H 0.9m) at SW. This entrance feature may be of recent origin, possibly related to the quarrying. The interior rises towards the centre, with cultivation ridges running NE-SW. A field fence running ENE-WSW intersects the perimeter of the monument at S. The site is now covered in trees as shown on Digital Globe aerial photograph taken November 2011. • WM012-135 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a prominent rise in undulating grassland, with good views to the W. Ringfort (WM012-134---) 50m to W. A raised circular shaped area (approx. diam. 43m NE-SW) enclosed by a low earthen bank and a shallow external fosse. The bank is best preserved from N-E, and is fragmentary and reduced to a scarp elsewhere. The external fosse is visible from N-NE and from SE-S-W. Traces of cultivation ridges are visible running NNE-SSW across the interior, which rises appreciably towards the centre. Field fences intersect the perimeter of the monument at S and W, and a farm track skirts the edge of the site at E. See attached profile of monument surveyed and drawn by the ASI.
