- WM023-007 Ringfort - rath
Description
Situated on a slight rise, in gently undulating pasture, ringfort (WM022-008---) 25m to SSW. Monument described in 1971 and 1976 as a roughly subcircular-shaped area (approx. dims. 30m N-S; 28m E-W) enclosed by a low earth and stone bank from N-E-S, which is almost reduced to a scarp elsewhere. A portion of the bank at E has been preserved as part of an old field boundary. The perimeter has been partly quarried away from NW-NE. A field bank cuts across the perimeter of the ringfort at W. - WM023-008 Ringfort - rath
Description
Situated on a slight rise, in gently undulating pasture, with good views in all directions with ringfort (WM023-017----) 30m to NNE. Monument described in 1971 and 1976 as a circular-shaped area (diam. 52m) enclosed by a bank (H 1.5-2m) that has been incorporated into a field boundary from NNW-N and has been disturbed by quarrying. The original entrance is not clearly visible, although there is a gap at S. The interior rises toward the centre and has traces of cultivation ridges running E-W. A field bank and drain curve around the exterior of the monument from NE-E-SSE. See attached profile of monument surveyed and drawn by ASI. - WM023-002 Ringfort - rath
Description
Situated on a slight rise, in undulating pasture, with good views from W-N-E and restricted to S. Bivallate ringfort described in 1971-8 as a subcircular-shaped area (dims. 48.3m E-W; 46m N-S) enclosed by a bank, an intervening fosse and an outer bank. The inner bank is low and the fosse is wide, deep and U-shaped. The low outer bank is best preserved from SW-W and has a gap at WSW. The outer bank has been incorporated into a field boundary from W-N-SSE. The original entrance is not recognisable. The interior has a gentle NE-facing slope and traces of cultivation ridges running NW-SE. See attached profile of monument surveyed and drawn by ASI.
