Traditionally the site of a monastic foundation associated with the Welsh saint Pol (Paul) and later belonging to the Templars and subsequently the Hospitallers in the 16th century. Not visible at ground level. Bones are believed locally to have been found during the construction of an extension to the adjacent house in the 1950s (Price 1967, 435). A dry fosse on the N edge of the garden could represent the N boundary of the graveyard. A holy well (WI031-008----), also dedicated to St Paul, lies c. 100m to the E in Kilpoole Lower.   Description

  Situated on level to gently undulating sandy ground - now on a golf course. Levelled quadrangular enclosure (dims. c. 40m E-W; 30m N-S) visible as cropmark on aerial photograph (CUCAP, AVJ 80) described by Price (1967, 435) as having a bank and outer fosse. • WI031-012 Enclosure
  Description

  Situated on fairly level ground. A subcircular enclosure (diam. c. 30m) defined by a fosse visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs (CUCAP, BDJ 77, BGN 11). The site is bounded at the N by a dried-up stream bed and at E by a cliff-edge. A pit is visible on the photographs along the line of the fosse at SE and another fosse extending from the W may indicate a possible annexe. Not visible at ground level. A large complex of ring-ditches (WI031-012001- to WI031-012007- and WI031-046----) occurs in the field to the S of this site and there is a possible promontory fort (WI031-047----) c. 100m to the NE. There are also traces of a double-ditched linear feature visible on the aerial photograph c. 40m to the NW. • WI031-012001 Ring-ditch
  Description

  Situated in a area of flat ground c. 400m from the coast. A cluster of eight ring-ditches, possibly representing ploughed-out barrows, visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (CUCAP, BDJ 77, 80). One is bivallate (int. diam. c. 15m; ext. diam. c. 30m) and is cut through by a road. The other seven (diams. c. 5-15m) are adjacent to the SW and NW. Three of these adjoin the outer enclosing element of the bivallate site while the others are within a distance of 30m. This cluster forms part of an extensive complex of ring-ditches (WI031-012001- to WI031-012007- and WI031-046----) extending eastwards to the coast.   A coastal promontory oriented NW-SE. An enclosure (WI031-012----) lies c. 150m to the S and a large complex of ring-ditches (WI031-040---- to WI031-046----) occupy the field to the S of this.
