  Situated c. 30m m from the S shore of a small bay (dims c. 200m E-W; c. 80-100m N-S) at the E end of Tom’s or Kilconny Lough. This is depicted as a small island only on the 1908 edition of the OS 6-inch map and it is visible on all the aerial media as a small island (diam. c. 10m) with a tree. • Glen Erne, house, 1880–1900 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached three-bay two-storey house, built c.1890, with paired windows, two-storey canted bay window to advanced eastern bay and single-storey porch. Recent two-storey extension to rear. Hipped slate roof with clay ridge tiles, pair of red brick chimneystacks flanking centre bay, uPVC rainwater goods. Coursed squared snecked sandstone walls, dressed quoins and sandstone eaves corbel course. North-east elevation largely rebuilt. Segmental-headed paired windows with block-and-start yellow brick surrounds, grey brick courses, keystones, stone sills and timber one-over-one sash windows. Segmental-headed entrance to side of porch with yellow brick and stone block-and-start surround and recent timber panelled door with overlight. Single- and two-storey outbuilding to south-west with rubble-stone walls and hipped and pitched slate roofs. Rubble stone boundary walls.

  Detached three-bay two-storey with attic former barracks, built c.1660, with open porch, and two-storey return and narrow second pile to rear. Later in use as RIC barracks, now in use as private house. Pitched slate roof with later barge boards, flat roof to porch, replacement rainwater goods. Rendered chimneys to gables with individual square stacks above ridge level having decorative cappings. Brick chimney stack to rear slope and rendered stack to ridge of rear return. Roughcast rendered walls with block-and-start quoins to front elevation. Smooth rendered walls to rear and return. Six-over-six timber sash windows to front elevation. Six-over-three timber sashes to south-east gable. uPVC casements to rear. Window openings of various sizes to north-east gable. Stone sills to all windows. Smooth rendered walls to porch with round-arched opening, corner pilasters, and scotia moulding to parapet coping. Bipartite sash window to south-west side of porch with profiled central mullion flanked by narrow two-over-two timber sashes. Timber panelled door and screen set back in porch in line with centre mullion, fixed decorative overlight above entrance door. Opens onto stone paving in front of porch with low stone wall opposite forming a bowed terrace facing the River Erne. Rendered wing wall to east corner of house with pointed brick arch opening and metal gate to gardens beyond. Garden north of house with brick lined rubble stone wall. Corrugated-iron boat house south-west of bowed terrace with stone gable to landward side. Square-profile stone piers in rubble stone wall to east of house lead to elongated yard with single- and two-storey rubble stone outbuildings to south-west and north-east. Rubble stone sweep walls having plain stone piers with cappings and simple ironwork double gates.

  Description

  Detached three-bay two-storey former parochial house, built c.1860, with single-storey porch, two-storey extension of c.1980 to rear. Now in use as private house. Hipped slate roof with clay ridge tiles, pair of brick chimneystacks flanking centre bay, uPVC rainwater goods. Flat roof to porch behind parapet with coping, corners surmounted by render capstones with gablets to each face. Smooth-rendered pilaster strips to corners of porch. Roughcast rendered walls to front elevation with smooth rendered plinth and V-jointed quoins. Timber six-over three sash windows to first floor, Wyatt sash windows at ground floor of front elevation with six-over-six central part and two-over-two side lights, all having stone sills. Segmental-arched window to front of porch with render keystone set in triangular-headed recess having two-over-two sashes with margin panes to top and bottom with decorative blue glass corner panes. Replacement timber panelled door at side of porch, also in triangular-headed recess. Decorative cast-iron double leaf gates flanked by square-profile rendered piers.

• Saint Mary's Catholic Church, church/chapel, 1845–1855 · Regional interest
  Description

  Freestanding Gothic Revival Roman Catholic church, built c.1850, with crenellated entrance porch, five-bay nave with gabled side chapel and lobby on either side, chancel added c.1870 with gabled sacristy to side having flat-roofed twentieth-century extension. Pitched slate roofs altered to have oversailing concrete eaves and verge, pressed metal rainwater goods. Ashlar bellcote to chancel gable. Coursed squared rubble sandstone walls, render to nave gable adjoining chancel. Ashlar piers to nave corners surmounted by octagonal-profile pinnacles, rising from gabled and stepped angle buttresses. Gabled and stepped buttresses with weatherings between nave bays. Decorative gabled canopy with corner pinnacles hsving statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary, panelled plinth on console surmounting main gable. Pair of pointed statue niches with hood mouldings on projecting consoles flanking engaged cross finial over ogee hood moulding to central pointed arch window, with flanking lancet windows. Projecting porch with stepped crenellated parapet having corner piers and buttresses reflecting nave corners, but surmounted by domed pinnacles with Greek cross finials. Square-headed doors with stepped hood moulding and timber doors with full height panels. Nave interior with flat plaster ceiling on triangular timber brackets with trefoil detail resting on wall consoles, centre of ceiling compartmented with acoustic panels, compartmented vaulted ceiling to chancel. Decorative plaster chancel arch springing from colonettes on decorative consoles. Blind clerestory arcade of decorative plaster to chancel walls, plaster colonettes and hoods to chancel windows. Richly carved timber gallery screen with open interlacing arch motif supported on arcade of pointed arches with fluted columns and carved spandrels, central bay raised and flanked by elaborately carved statues niches. Plain recessed confessionals, c.1940, beneath having octagonal vision panels. Leaded windows to nave and entrance gable. Stained glass to chancel windows. Timber doors with leaded light above. White marble central and side altars with coloured marble columns and inlays. Recent marble tabernacle, octagonal stone font, recent timber pews. Opens to stone entrance steps at main and side entrances. Graveyard to site. Detached three-bay single-storey outbuilding to site with pitched slate roof, two-over-two timber sash windows, and replacement timber panelled door. Recent steel framed bell-tower, c.1990, with slated pyramid roof. Double leaf decorative cast-iron gates flanked by square-profile ashlar limesonte piers with pyramidal copings capped by crucifixes, having flanking decorative cast-iron pedestrian gates, set in wing railings with stone plinth walls.
