Description

Description
Raised circular area (int. diam. c. 40m) enclosed by a substantial earthen bank which has been modified and incorporated into the field boundary. An earlier report (OPW 1970) noted slight traces of an external fosse and also suggested that the original entrance may have been at ESE. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). Description
Freestanding Gothic-Revival gable-fronted former Methodist church, built c.1820, with two-bay nave. Now in use as outbuilding. Pitched slate roof with clay ridge tiles, projecting cut-stone eaves-course. Lime render to walls with rubble stone exposed in some locations, cut-stones quoins. Pointed arch window opening with sandstone hood moulding and sill to front elevation, brick infill to upper part of pointed arch with recent timber sheeted doors below, recent wide opening to ground floor under window opening. Similar pointed arch openings with hood mouldings to north elevation with remains of paired timber four-over-four sash windows having Y-tracery. Plain pointed arch opening to west elevation with stone sill, now bricked up. Interior altered to include recent timber floor at level of underside of pointed arch windows. Evidence of fireplace to south wall surviving. Setback from street.

Description
Terraced four-bay two-story house, dated 1816, with integral carriage arch to north, and pubfront inserted to south. Pitched slate roof with clay ridge tiles and rendered chimneystacks to ridge and gables. Carved stone date plaque incorporated into centre chimneystack reading ‘P.L 1816’. Replacement uPVC gutters, cast-iron downpipe to north party-wall. Lined-and-ruled rendered walls with stone eaves course. Window openings with stone sills, patent reveals, and two-over-two timber sash windows. Pub front comprises display window with rendered stallriser and door set into surround of three panelled timber pilasters with decoratively carved console brackets supporting plain timber fascia. Timber four-panelled door with upper glazed panels and overlight. Round-headed door opening to dwelling entertance, with stone surround comprising panelled pilasters with plain capitals and moulded arch with pronounced keystone detail. Four-panelled timber door with plain fanlight. Three-centred arch to carriage opening with timber battened gates and inset wicket gate.

Description
Detached U-plan five-bay single-storey Garda Station, built c.1935, with advanced gabled end bays, flat-roofed entrance lobbies to west and south. Hipped slate roof, rendered chimneystacks to ridge and hips, replacement uPVC rainwater goods and uPVC fascia, barges over angled brick eaves course. Roughcast rendered walls over smooth rendered plinth course, window openings with concrete sills. Smooth render surrounds to window openings of central bays with smooth rendered platband over, six-over-six sash timber windows with tripartite sash window in middle. Two-over-two sash windows to projecting gable elevations with smooth rendered semi-circular recess over. Six-over-six and tripartite timber sashes to south elevation. Main entrance to west elevation with wide smooth rendered surround having timber sheeted door with overlight and stone step. Opening flanked by four-over-four timber sash windows. Timber sheeted doors to entrances. Six-over-six timber sash windows to eastern lobby with recent timber panelled door. Detached single-storey garage to rear, having hipped slate roof, roughcast rendered walls. Rubble-stone boundary wall to road with blockwork piers having pyramidal cappings and forged metal gates. Recent timber fence to west boundary with vehicular access.

Description
Detached Classcial style five-bay two-storey former market house, built 1813, with three central recessed bays beneath oversailing roof, two-storey extension to rear. Extensively renovated c.2005 and now in commercial use. Hipped slate roof with clay ridge tiles, replacement uPVC rainwater goods, fascia, and soffit. Roughcast rendered walls to outer bays with stone plinth, quoins, and plat band. Roughcast rendered walls to first floor of recessed bay with central limestone stone plaque having cornice profile. Plaque reads, ‘Erected in MDCCCXIII A year memorable for the Glorious Achievement of Marquis Wellington’. Limestone ashlar walls to ground floor central recessed bays, with plat band continuing to flanking bays. Projecting bays with square-headed opening to first floor and round-headed opening to ground floor having patent reveals, stone sills. Recessed bays having stone-dressed oculi to first floor and three segmental-arched openings to ground floor. Segmental-headed door opening with square-headed window openings above to gables. Recent timber fittings to openings. Stone steps across full width of recess. Set obliquely on corner, opening directly onto street.
