- CL005-106 Ringfort - cashel
Description
In a slight hollow on high elevated pasture, within a mulitperiod field system (CL005-104001-). Listed as a ‘Rectangular enclosure’ in the RMP (1996). Indicated on the 1916 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. A poorly surviving and largely rebuilt, roughly rectangular, cashel (34m N-S; 33m E-W) defined by an externally faced wall (Wth 0.4-0.6m; H 0.2-6m). A hut site (CL005-106001-) with a lintelled roof is built onto the exterior near the W end of the N wall. A later wall is built on most of the cashel perimeter. Field walls, some of which may be of antiquity, radiate off from each corner. This is no. 7 of Bowmer’s (2019) list of 66 rectilinear cashels in the Burren. Description
Abutting the external W end of the N wall of a cashel (CL005-106----). A roughly square hut (diam. c. 2m) defined by a wall (T 0.6m; H up to 1.1m) with a partly blocked entrance (Wth 0.55m) facing the cashel.
