Description
On top of a NE–SSW ridge, forming the central peak of the Turloughmore Mountains, with extensive views from E to N. Equally high ground c. 100m to the NE blocks views in that direction. A well-preserved grass-covered cairn (dims. at base 13.2m NW–SE; 12.2m NE–SW; H 1–1.7m) with a circular flat top (diam. 6.2m) on which is a pyramidal cairn (dims. 1.5m x 2m; max. H 0.6m) at NE. Description
On a shelf half way up the S slopes of the central peak of Turloughmore mountain. A bank or grassed-over wall is visible on Digital Globe (2011-13) and on OSi Aerial Premium (2013-2018) curving for c. 95m from NE to SW and possibly following the contour. A short length of similar wall abuts the curve at SE and extends out some 12m. Close to the summit of the central peak of Turloughmore Mountain. A mound wall curving around a hollow in which lies a hut site (CL006-237001-) and extending W across the summit and E downslope. Description
In a hollow close to the summit of the central peak of Turloughmore mountain. An oval enclosure (c. 12m N-S; c. 10m E-W) defined by a grassed-over wall visible on Digital Globe (2011-13) and on OSi Aerial Premium (2013-18). An E-W internal wall cuts off the S portion. A mound wall (CL006-237----) curves around the E side of the hollow and extends to the W across the summit. Another mound wall (CL006-237----), also extending roughly E-W, lies c. 80m to the S and is associated with an enclosure (CL006-237001-). - CL007-002 Ritual site - holy well
Description
On level improved pasture. Indicated along a former field boundary c. 35m to the SE and named ‘Toberacollure’ on the 1842 and 1915 eds of the OS 6-inch maps. A well site now covered by a low cairn of small stones cleared from surrounding field (L 5m; Wth 4m; H 1m) upon which 3 whitethorn bushes grow. No trace of any water or stream emerging from under the cairn or any votive offerings on the site. An ecclesiastical enclosure (CL007-003001-), associated building (CL007-003002-) children’s burial ground (CL007-003003-) and church (CL007-003004-), lie 30m to the NE.
