• CL011-024 Enclosure
  Description

  Situated c. 20m SE of a stream on a slight W-facing slope at the NW end of a NW-SE ridge in pasture with very good views from SW-N-S. A very overgrown and largely inaccessible suboval enclosure (int. dims. c. 25m NW-SE; c. 17m SW-NE; c. 40m overall NW-SE) represented by hachures on the OS 25-inch plan (surveyed 1913-18) and by just a few hachures on the OS 6-inch map (1916). The monument is mostly covered in hazel scrub and gorse but appears to comprise a central platform or mound (H at NW where exposed 2.85m), partially utilising existing outcropping rock, with a wide, deep, flat external fosse from N to S (Wth 2.1m), shallow SW to N (Wth 1.83m). An external bank extends SW-SE and is most substantial along the E side (at NE Wth 4.25m; int. H 0.75m; ext. H 0.55m; at SW Wth 1.52m; int. H 0.33m; ext. H 0.65m). There is no discernible entrance although some field clearance up against the NE portion may conceal an entrance. A drystone wall abuts the site at S and seals off access into the deep fosse.   Description

  On a gentle SW-facing pasture slope. Hachured on both the first edition (1842) and later, Cassini edition (1916) of the OS 6-inch map. This almost completely levelled, circular enclosure (est. diam. c. 45m) is partly traceable in satellite imagery (Aerial Premium 2013-2018), where the SE-WSW arc of its low enclosing bank (est.   Description

  On a gentle SW-facing slope in reclaimed pasture. Hachured on the 1842 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. This almost levelled suboval enclosure (c. 26m WNW-ESE; c. 20m NNE-SSW) is defined by a low bank (Wth at N c. 9m; H 0.1-0.2m) and is visible in ortho photographs (OSi MapGenie 2012-2018).   Description

  Detached four-bay two-storey house, built c. 1890, originally two-bay two-storey thatched post office, now also in use as public house. Renovated and extended to right, c. 1940, with render pubfront inserted to left ground floor. Extended to right, c. 1970, with two-bay single-storey annexe added to left. Pitched slate roof with rendered chimneystacks, concrete gable copings and cast-iron rainwater goods. Lined-and-ruled rendered walls with render quoins and moulded render architraves. Render shopfront comprising paired pilasters flanking openings with vermiculated capital panels, lettering and moulded cornice above. Chamfered reveals to openings with replacement fittings. Attached garage, built c. 1970, to right. Petrol pump to front.
