Description
On a flat-topped hillock in hilly pasture. Hachured as a rath on the OS 1840 6-inch map. Archaeological testing (97E0043) by B. Hodkinson in 1997 failed to produce any archaeological material (Bennett 1998, Excavations 1997, p. 6, No. 19). On inspection in 1999 no visible remains could be seen at ground level. A caravan park lies immediately adjacent to the W. Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 19 November 2025

- CL023-065 Cliff-edge fort
Description
Situated on a steep cliff-edge c. 450m S of Lahinch beach backing onto a NE-SW cliff. A subcircular enclosure, reported to the National Monuments Service by Matthew Kelly. It is visible on historical Google Earth satellite imagery (21 January 2010) as a subrectangular enclosure (c. 15m NE-SW; 11m NW-SE) defined by a bank and possible fosse. The curving banks of another cliff-edge fort (CL023-001----) are visible c. 100m to the NE. These are named 'Doonmeave' on the OS 6-inch maps and are almost completely ploughed out. The smaller cliff-edge fort is located at the highest point along the cliff-edge and a trigonometrical point is shown there on the 1840 OS map (99ft). It is possible that Doonmeave encircled this whole area centred on the highest point but the smaller fort may also be a discrete monument of later date. The following image has been uploaded: CL023-065----_01.jpg Google Earth satellite image showing both CL023-065---- and the curving banks os CL023-001----.
