Description
On a slight rise in a low-lying landscape. Listed as 'rectangular enclosure' in the SMR (1992) and the RMP (1996). A rectangular grass-covered area (dims. 50m E-W; 40m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (5.3m; int. H 0.1m; ext. H 0.8m) at N and scarps (H 0.6-0.9m) on the other sides. A fosse (Wth 1-1.4m generally to 4m at E) separates it from an earthen bank (Wth 10.5m; int. H 0.7m; ext. H 0.7m) at S which is incorporated into field banks at E (Wth 3m; H 3m) and N (Wth 4m; H 0.4m) and overlain by a farm track (Wth 3.6m; H 0.4-0.7m) at W. Description
On the gentle S-facing slope of a ridge. Listed as 'Enclosure' in the SMR (1992) and the RMP (1996). A circular grass and rush-covered area (int. diam. 29m N-S; 28m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 4.5-6.5m; int. H 0.4-0.9m; ext. H 0.65-1.2m) with some internal facing-stones at E, and traces of a fosse (Wth 2.5-3m) visible as bands of rushes at N and S. Description
On a N-facing slope in pasture. Listed as 'Enclosure' in the SMR (1992) and the RMP (1996). A D-shaped grass-covered area (int. dims. 29m E-W; 24m N-S) defined by an earthen bank which is best preserved (Wth 5.5m; int. H 1.9m; ext. H 2m at S) SE-SW and which may have been augmented (Wth 9m; int. H 1.1m; ext. H 1.8m) SW-NW. The outer face of the bank is cut away and faced with stones (H 2.4m) at E, and the site is truncated by an E-W roadway at N. Description
At the crest of a N-facing slope. Listed as 'Enclosure' in the SMR (1992) and the RMP (1996). A circular grass-covered mound (diam. of base 30.5m E-W; 29.5m N-S; H 0.8m at W to 1.4m at S) defined by a flat-bottomed fosse (Wth 11m; ext. D 0.5m at WSW to 1.4m NW-SE), and an outer bank (at WSW: Wth 8m; ext. H 0.8m; at N: Wth 12m; ext. H 0.6m; at ENE: Wth 6m; ext. H 0.7m) which is reduced to a scarp (H 0.4m) SE-SW. The fosse was re-cut as a drain (Wth of base 1.6-4.5m; D 0.4m) SE-NW with an exit drain at S. There is an entrance (Wth 7m) in the bank and a causeway (Wth 7m) at E which lead to a subrectangular hut site (CL038-034002-) on the mound, and there is a modern entrance through the bank at NW (max. ext. dims. 74m N-S; 66m E-W). An entrance and a causeway in the barrow lead to a subrectangular hut site (int. dims. 3.4m E-W; 2.65m N-S) defined by an earth and stone bank (Wth 1.6-2.4m; H 0.1-0.6m) on the central mound. A subcircular grass-covered area (int. dims. 23m E-W; 20m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 3-5m; int. H 0.5-0.8m; ext. H 0.8m at E to 1.6m at W), and an outer fosse (Wth of base 2.4-3.4m; max. Description
On top of a hillock. Listed as 'Grave Yard' in the SMR (1992) and the RMP (1996). A raised subrectangular area defined by a scarp (H 1.2-2m) and surrounded by a masonry wall (int. dims. 70m E-W; 55m N-S). Recumbent headstones, dating largely from c. 1833 to 1915, occupy much of the centre while upright headstones, dating from c. 1890 to the present, are on the periphery W-N, and there are c. 20 vaults dating from c. 1850 to the present. A coffin-resting stone and external steps are on the perimeter wall close to the NW corner. Description
On top of a hillock and within the E perimeter of a walled burial ground (CL038-036001-) which is itself within an enclosure (CL038-026003-). A circular well (diam. 0.9m; D 1.4m) retained by a masonry wall with four steps down to the water at ENE. There is no evidence or local knowledge of veneration. At the summit of an E-W ridge. There are no known references to a castle here, and there are no traditions associated with it. Circular grass-covered area (diam. c. 25m NW-SE) defined by a very slight scarp (H 0.8m; Wth 10m). A rectangular hollow (dims. 7m NE-SW 3m NW-SE; D 0.6-0.7m) at is N edge may be the site of a structure or a quarry like the larger quarry (dims. 22m N-S; 10m E-W; max. D 1.8m) just 3m to S. Description
Freestanding T-plan gable-fronted double-height Roman Catholic church, built 1844, with four-bay side elevations having two-bay transepts with gabled projecting porches. Pitched artificial slate roof. Rendered walls. Lancet openings with replacement uPVC windows. Retaining interior features. Concrete brick walls and piers added to site, c. 1970.
