• CL033-043 Ritual site - holy well
  Description

  At the bottom of a W-facing slope, and just on the E bank of a SE-NW stream. A circular drystone well (diam. 0.9m) with a concrete superstructure which houses offerings. The well is open to the W and there are six white-painted pebbles at the opening. The well is surrounded by a gravel path that is becoming overgrown, and is within a rectangular enclosure (int. dims. 14.4m NW-SE; 12.75m NE-SW) defined by a hedge, with some mature conifer trees inside the perimeter.   Situated on top of a drumlin. listed as 'Enclosure' in the SMR (1992) and the RMP (1996). A raised circular grass-covered platform (diam. 24.9m NE-SW; 24.2m NW-SE) defined by a slight lip of a bank (Wth 3.6-4.8m; int. H 0.1m; ext H 0.9m at NE to 1.6m at SW).   Description

  Situated towards the top of the NE-facing slope of a hill. Listed as 'Enclosure' in the SMR (1992) and the RMP (1996). A circular grass-covered area (diam. 32.7m NE-SW; 31m NW-SE) defined by an overgrown, flat-topped earthen bank (Wth of base 4-5m; Wth of top 1.5m; int. H 0.8-1.2m; ext. H 2.2-2.6m) SW-N, which is incorporated into a road bank W-N and accompanied by a fosse (Wth of base 1.5-4.2m; D 0.9-1.1m) S-W. The perimeter is reduced to a scarp (H 0.9-1.7m) N-SW, and there is a broad entrance ramp (Wth 6m) at ENE. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 31 May 2016

A circular overgrown area (diam. 30.5m NNE-SSW) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 3.3-4.8m; int. H 0.4-0.9m; ext. H 1.6m), and an outer fosse (at NNE: Wth of top 4m; Wth of base 2m; D 0.5m) SW-E.   Description

  Situated on a slight rise. Listed as ' Enclosure' in the SMR (1992) and the RMP (1996). A circular grass-covered area (diam. 34.7m E-W; 33.3m N-S) (max. ext. diam. 55m N-S) defined by a scrub-covered earthen bank (Wth 8-9m; int. H 1.2m; ext. H 3-3.6m) E-N, and a complete outer fosse (Wth of top 8.8-9.5m; Wth of base 2.5-3.5m; D 0.4-0.7m).
