Under hazel overgrowth, near the SW foot of Cappanawalla Hill, with views from S-NW over the valley floor and Rathborney River. Indicated on the 1842 ed. of the OS 6-inch map and hachured on the 1916 ed. It may be one of two forts described by Westropp (1901, 277) as ‘two greatly defaced forts’. Listed as a cashel in the RMP (1996). A very overgrown and largely inaccessible circular ringfort (diam. c. 25m [from map]) defined by a bank of earth and stone from E-SE (Wth 4-5m; H 0.4-1m) with some internal facing (H 0.3m) evident at E, and a low narrow bank covered by brambles and branches from SW-NW. Where clearest, at W, the interior is generally flat. Compiled by: Mary Tunney and Ros Ó Maoldúin Date of upload: 25 January 2022

Description
In pasture with some hazel overgrowth near the W foot of Cappanawalla Hill, with commanding views from S-NW over the Rathborney valley floor. Hachured and named ‘Lismacteige’ on the 1842 and 1916 eds of the OS 6-inch map, it is one of two forts described by Westropp (1901, 277) as ‘two greatly defaced forts’. Listed as a cashel in the RMP (1996). A moderately well-preserved circular ringfort (44.5m E-W by 39m N-S) defined by a wide bank of earth and stone (av. Wth at base 6m; int. H 0.8-1.1m; ext. H 0.8-1.5m) that narrows (Wth 3.8m) from W to WNW where it is also particularly stony. Some external facing (H 0.5m) is visible at SE and to the S, there is a flat berm (Wth 2m) partway up the external bank. A bank of earth and stone, potentially of some antiquity, extends from the SE side. Another, covered in hazel extends from the NE. A pair of conjoined ringforts (CL005-200---- and CL005-200002-) are located c. 100m to the E. Compiled by: Mary Tunney and Ros Ó Maoldúin Date of upload: 25 January 2022

- CL005-206002 Cairn - unclassified
Description
In limestone pavement on the S-facing upper terraces of Cappanawalla hill. One of two cairns placed along the line of the enclosing bank of hillfort (CL002-076001-). This cairn (c. 7.5m N-S; c. 7m E-W) is placed slightly to the S of the line of the hillfort bank. Detailed topographic survey of the monument by Grant (2008, 79) determined that the bank material stops short of the cairn, but an obvious limestone pedestal continues along the line of the banks, implying that the bank was originally continuous and that its material was reused to construct the cairn at a later date, interrupting the line of the bank but leaving behind a limestone pedestal. A second cairn (CL002-076002-) is placed along the line of the hillfort bank c. 350m to the E. Compiled by: Mary Tunney and Eve Campbell Date of upload: 14 October 2025
