• CL016-114 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On a S-facing slope in undulating and partly cleared pasture. Hachured on the 1840 and 1916 eds. of the OS 6-inch maps. Listed as ‘enclosure’ in the RMP (1996). A subcircular rath (24m E-W; 22m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 5.5m; int. H 0.3; ext. H 0.6m) that was heavily overgrown at SW and W; no clear inner or outer facing could be seen. A stone field wall clipped it at NE. The interior, which sloped to the SSW, was partly overgrown with gorse. Multiple hollows within the gorse suggested that it had been dug into in the past. • CL016-115 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On a flat level summit near the top of a steep SSE-facing slope in an area of hilly fertile grassland with undrained lower slopes. Hachured and named ‘Cahergal’ on the 1916 OS 6-inch map. Listed as ‘cashel’ in the RMP (1996). Described by Westropp (1905, 211) as ‘levelled almost to the field’ and in 1913 (p. 260) ‘as a barely visible ring of filling on a pleasant hillock on the flank of Inchiquin Hill, overlooking the green valley towards Applevale’. A subcircular rath (dims. 22.1m N-S; 19.75m E-W) defined by a scarp (H 1m) along the S and W and a rounded earthen bank (Wth 1.9m; int. H 0.35m; ext. H 0.15m) in the N. The centre is level and overgrown with nettles and thistles and there are multiple gaps for cattle. In the E, an earthen bank (Wth 1.5m; H 0.2m) runs along the perimeter of the central area and may be the remains of a land commission field boundary. • CL016-162 Barrow - ring-barrow
  Description

  At the top edge of a S-facing slope in a field of fertile pasture in hilly grassland with undrained ground in the lower slopes and with good views to the S. A circular barrow (diam. 8.5m crest to crest) defined by a low, earth and stone bank (max. Wth 4.25m at base; Wth 2.9m at E; max. int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.6m) at the E, S and W and a scarp at the N on higher ground. The interior is dished with no definite inner edge. The perimeter is slightly overgrown but clearly visible and has small gaps.
