• CL017-101 Ringfort - cashel
  Description

  In mixed scrub and exposed limestone pavement with improved pasture immediately to the E. Hachured on the first edition (1842) of the OS 6-inch map and recorded as an enclosure on the later, Cassini edition (1916). Classified as an enclosure in the RMP (1996). A subcircular cashel (33m NW-SE; 31.5m NE-SW) is defined by a stone wall (Wth 1.6m; H 1.7m) with a batter which survives from SW-NW-NE. The outer wall-face is composed of large limestone blocks (L 1m; H 0.3m). From NE-SE-SW, the wall has been levelled and rebuilt along its original course using slabs of limestone pavement (H 2m). There is a modern entrance gap at NE. • CL017-101002 House - 18th/19th century
  Description

  Situated within a cashel (CL017-101001-). An 18th or 19th-century rectangular house (ext. dims. 14.8m E-W; 5.7m N-S) oriented E-W and built across the E wall of the cashel. The E and W ends of the house survive best and the E end was built on the line of the outer face of the cashel wall. The wall (T 0.8m) is 1.3m high at the W gable. There are no recognisable windows or doors. Some of the cashel wall appears to have been used to build the house. Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 8 June 2016
