Description
In pasture. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure (diam. c. 35m) on 1842, 1904 and 1939 OS 6-inch maps. According to Hartnett (1939, 174), 'single rampart with no trace of an outer fosse'; possible entrance to E, with three other breaks in bank; 'overall diameter is 136 feet'. Levelled; slight rise visible in area of site. Visible in aerial photograph (CASAP) as cropmark showing dark band enclosing circular area. Description
In pasture, on a slight SE-facing slope. A spring well enclosed by a drystone wall (H 0.75m). The well is now dry due to land drainage works but the water formerly flowed out to the S through a lintelled opening. According to local information, the well is dedicated to St Laghteen. A mature beech tree grows immediately behind it. Another holy well dedicated to St Laghteen (CO050-097----) lies c. 900m to the NNE.
