  Description

  Roadside, on stream 1.65km N of Kilbrittain. Gabled, L-shaped 4-bay, 3- storey structure; slated roof, wooden floors. Wheel pit (Wth 1.58m) on S elev.; overshot-cast iron waterwheel with segment wheel attached to arms. Pinion engaged externally. Power was transmitted by pulley system operating a pair of millstones on 1st floor. Bramford Rapid Roller Mill and Turner Grinding Mill also in use. Grain drying kiln at NW end structure. • Barleyfield Mill, mill (water), 1790–1830 · Regional interest
  Description

  Attached four-bay three-storey with attic corn mill, built c.1810, having three-storey with gable-fronted block to rear (west) and single-storey block to front (east). Ruinous remains of extension to side (south). Water-wheel with cast-iron spokes to side (south) elevation of main block. Now disused. Pitched slate roof to main block and rear block, with dressed limestone eaves courses having rendered chimneystack and remains of aluminium rainwater goods. Corrugated-iron lean-to roof to front block. Rubble stone walls throughout, with rendered wall to northern section of front extension. Remains of slate hanging to side (south, north) elevations of main block. Cast-iron bracing-plates to rear elevation. Square-headed window openings throughout with some concrete sills and stone lintels, having occasional timber battened shutters. Six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows to attic level of side (north) elevation. Square-headed door openings throughout, having timber lintel and dressed stone voussoirs to front elevation openings. Timber battened doors throughout, with exception of timber panelled door to side (north) elevation of front extension. Remains of Millrace to south-east with cast-iron and timber sluice gate. Yard to east with single-storey outbuilding. Recent double-leaf aluminium gate to south-east on square-profile roughcast rendered piers with flat stone and domed concrete caps.

  Description

  Attached four-bay two-storey former miller’s house, built c.1810, having recent two-storey lean-to extension to rear (south). Now in use as private house. Pitched slate roof moulded timber fascia to eaves, rendered chimneystacks and uPVC rainwater goods. Rendered walls throughout having lined-and-ruled rendered wall to eastern section of front (north) elevation and rear (south) elevation. Chamfered corner to north-east. Square-headed window openings with rendered sills throughout. One-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows to front (north) elevation. Replacement aluminium casement windows elsewhere. Square-headed door opening with rendered doorstep to front elevation, having margined glazed timber door. Set back from road with attached former corn mill to south-west. Concrete yard to south with single-storey outbuilding. Recent double-leaf aluminium gate to south-east on square-profile roughcast rendered piers.

• Barleyfield Bridge, bridge, 1800–1840 · Regional interest
  Description

  Freestanding double-arch road bridge, built c.1820, spanning river. Segmental-headed arches having dressed ashlar limestone voussoirs with shallow projecting keystone. Ashlar limestone V- cutwater to central piers to north and south elevations with domed render caps. Rubble stone spandrels and parapets with flat and round-headed rendered coping.

  Description

  Detached three-bay two-storey worker's house, built c.1820, having recent single-storey extension to rear (west). Currently disused. Pitched artificial slate roof with rendered chimneystacks, platband and eaves course, rainwater goods absent. Lined-and-ruled rendered walls. Square-headed window openings with render sills throughout, having two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows to front (east) elevation. Square-headed door opening with rendered reveals to front elevation, having timber battened door. Four-bay two-storey rubble stone outbuilding to north, having slate roof with render gable copings. Square-headed openings having battened timber shutters and doors.
