  Description

  On E side of Awbeg River limestone gorge, S of Castletownroche. One of three caves (9807, 9808) investigated in 1938 and 1940 (Gwynn et al. 1942); listed by Dowd (1997, 31) as 'Foley Cave'. Fissure high on side of gorge provided entrance (L 1.5m) to small chamber (L 4m; Wth 2m) from the back of which ran passage and narrow gallery (see plan Dowd ibid., 34, fig. 3.11). Outer fissure and chamber excavated. In these the 'superficial deposits' (D c. 0.35m) produced charcoal, fragment of burnt bone, small baked clay ball and fragments of iron; 'intermediate and deep deposits' produced wide range of Pleistocene fauna.   Faint pattern of rectilinear cropmarks, some perpendicular to each other, covering area of c. 9ha, visible in aerial photograph (CASAP, July 1989). • Copsewood, house, 1800–1820 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached three-bay two-storey house with attic, built c. 1810. Hipped slate roof with rendered chimneystacks having moulded limestone caps, dormer window to all sides and timber brackets to eaves. Roughcast rendered walls. Square-headed openings having double four-over-four pane timber sliding sash windows with limestone sills. Four-pane double timber casement windows to dormers. Round-headed entrance door opening having engaged limestone columns, cornice and archivolt, timber panelled door and fanlight, with steps. Single-storey rubble stone outbuildings with hipped slate roofs to site. Rendered boundary walls and piers with recent metal gates.

  Description

  Limekiln, built c. 1820, set against quarry face. Now disused. Rubble limestone walls with round-arched opening with roughly cut sandstone voussoirs.

• Ballinardra Bridge, bridge, 1850–1870 · Regional interest
  Description

  Single-span road limestone bridge over disused railway line, built c. 1860. Rock-faced ashlar walls, with dressed stone string courses above arch elevations and dressed stone copings to parapets. Segmental arch with rock-faced voussoirs.

  Description

  Three-bay single-storey vernacular house, built c. 1800, now in use as store, and having higher outbuilding, possibly forge, at east end. Corrugated-iron roof over thatch, hipped to west end and pitched to adjoining outbuilding to east end, with stone chimneystack. Whitewashed rubble stone walls. Square-headed window openings, boarded up with timber. Square-headed door opening with timber battened door. Outbuilding has pitched slate roof, rubble stone chimneystack and whitewashed rubble stone walls, and square-headed paned fixed timber windows and square-headed vehicular entrance with timber battened double-leaf door.
