Description
Shown as circular field on 1842, 1904 and 1938 OS 6-inch maps. In rough grazing at foot of E side of Ballyvouskill Mountain. Circular area (diam. 28m) enclosed by collapsed stone wall (H 1.4m; T 3.5m), topped by later field fence. Original external facing survives in places to W and N. Old cultivation ridges cross interior; low cairn (diam. 2.5m; H 0.5m) in NE quadrant. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. In mountainous moorland, on high shelf looking N along valley. Circular area (diam. 20m) enclosed by ruinous remains of stone wall (H 0.4m) topped by stone field fence. Possible outer wall (H 0.3m) with shallow intervening fosse W->E. Interior raised slightly on N side to compensate for downslope. Description
On flat boggy land on N side of Garrane River valley. Well-preserved tomb, comprises gallery, aligned E-W, surrounded by closely-set outer walling. Short portico at W end (L 0.4m) separated from main chamber (L c. 3m) by short septal-stone set in front of two jambs. Gallery sides each represented by three stones, with inset backstone to E; covered by three roofstones. Traces of low mound around structure. Description
In pasture, on SE-facing slope. Circular area (32m E-W; 30m N-S) raised on SE side to compensate for hillslope and cut into hill on NW side. Interior defined by earthen bank (max. int. H 1m; max. ext. H 3.3m) NE->SW; low internal scarp elsewhere. Bank and interior planted with coniferous trees. Surrounding field fences levelled. Description
In pasture, on a slight SE-facing slope. This possible boulder-burial is located in a field boundary where a lot of field clearance material, including large stones, has been dumped. A large cover-stone (1.95m E-W; 1.9m N-S; T 1.55m) rests on two support-stones at NNE and NNW and a third earthfast stone, possibly outcropping rock, to the S. Two upright stones (0.5m x 0.2m; H 0.45m and 0.6m x 0.3m; H 0.5m, respectively), apparently deliberately set, are located immediately ENE and NW of the cover-stone.
