Description
Marked 'Kilcoulaghta Grave Yd.' on 1842 OS 6-inch map; 'disused' on 1904 OS 6-inch map. Within possible ringfort (CO071-113002-). No surface trace of burials or gravemarkers. Hartnett (1939, 144) noted '....outline of graves and stumps of stones (unmarked)'. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Description
In pasture, on NW-facing slope overlooking Lee River valley. Indicated on 1842 OS 6-inch map by broken line enclosing semicircular area (diam. c. 40m) on S side of E-W field fence; SW quadrant indicated by broken line on 1904 and 1938 OS 6-inch maps. Arc (C 19.5m) formed by fosse (D 1.1m) survives S->W on S side of E-W field boundary; burial ground (CO071-113001-) in interior. Possible souterrain (CO071-113003-) on N side of field boundary. According to Hartnett (1939, 144) OS 'Name Books say "A small graveyard, within the circle of a fort still traceable"....'. No visible surface trace of remainder of enclosure.
