Description
In pasture, on S-facing slope. Depicted as circular enclosure on 1842, 1904 and 1943 OS 6-inch maps. Arc formed by earthen bank (H 1m) survives N->S (diam. 35.4m); topped by stone wall and incorporated into field fence system. Grass in interior and in area of levelled bank is lighter in colour than surrounding field, with darker band of grass along line of fosse S->N. Description
In pasture, on S-facing slope. Roughly circular raised area (27.2m N-S; 26m NE-SW) defined by earthen bank (int. H 0.4m; ext. H 1m) WSW->NW and to E; scarp (H c. 1m) to N, S and SW. Bank incorporated into field fence system on E side; field clearance material dumped along outer face. External fosse visible as slight depression to SW. Interior slopes gently down to S, except for last 4-5m which falls steeply; possible souterrain (CO083-096002-) in NW quadrant. Ruined late 18th/early 19th-century 2-storey house. Front elevation (S) of 5 bays, central round-headed door ope with fanlight. Gable-ended, with chimneys on gables. Central gabled projection to rear with lower later gabled projection added. Remains of weatherslating on front and rear elevations. Farm buildings in poor repair to rear. Wall-mounted cast-iron post box, installed c.1930, with raised "P&T" initials and maker's mark "W.T. Allen & Co. London". Set in rubble stone wall.
