Description
In reclaimed bogland overlooking Coomhola River valley to S. Rectangular stone aligned ENE-WSW (H 1.7m; 0.95m x 0.45m). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). Description
In rough gorse and heather-covered grazing on the S-facing slopes of an E-W ridge overlooking the valley of the Borlin River. Two contiguous stone slabs, and a single parallel stone slab (H 0.85m; 1.75m x 0.2m) stand 0.4m apart. All slabs lean slightly outwards and decrease in height from NNW to SSE. A fragment of a slab is resting on the ground at N and may have been broken from one of the larger slabs. Badgers have disturbed the ground beneath the stones. Description
In rough hill grazing, in a sheltered SW-sloping hollow overlooking the valley of Coomhola River. A roughly rectangular area (8.3m NE-SW; 4.9m NW-SE) is defined by the remains of a partially collapsed stone wall (T 0.6m; H 0.1- 0.65m) at SW, NW and NE and by an outcropping rock at SE. Several contiguous stone slabs, protruding above the surface of the bog, occur at irregular intervals along the perimeter. Within the SW half of the enclosure a smaller rectangular area (c. 2.65m NE-SW; c. 1.4m NW-SE) is defined by stone slabs embedded on the shallow bog and may be the remnants of a turf stand for stacking turf.
