  Description

  Shown on 1842 OS 6-inch map as rectangular area (c. 15m E-W; c. 10m N-S) defined by broken line and named 'Religpatrick Old Grave Yard'; shown on 1904 and 1935 OS 6-inch maps as subrectangular area (c. 25m E-W; c. 30m N-S) defined by broken line and named 'Religpatrick Grave Yard (Disused)'. In pasture, on N-facing slope, c. 300m W of St Patrick's holy well (13981). Roughly rectangular area (12.6m N-S; 15.8m E-W) defined by low rise (H 0.4m) all around. Some uninscribed grave markers noted. According to Bowman (1934, 603) 'circular, diameter 22yds', where no burials had taken place for 200 years. OS Field Books of 1839 noted 'several small stones...and some appearances of old graves' and also that 'no persons interred these 80 years, only unbaptized children' (Grove White 1905-25, vol. 3, 82).   In pasture, on N-facing slope. Condon (1916, 146 no. 126) recorded standing stone here; 'Height 3 feet 6 inches; breadth 1 foot 6 inches; and a few inches in thickness. It is of a greyish colour'.   Shown on 1842 OS 6-inch map, within demesne of Old Dromore House, as narrow rectangular church (c. 10m NW-SE; c. 5m NE-SW), and named 'Temple'. Not shown clearly on 1904 OS 6-inch map; NW and SW walls shown on 1935 OS 6-inch map, and named 'church (in ruins)'. OS Name Book (1839) notes 'Roman Temple' at Old Dromore House; O'Donovan comments that this site, 10 chains from old house, 'must be a R.C. Teampull' (Grove White 1905-25, vol. 3, 83).   Description

  No visible surface trace of rectangular structure (c. 5m SW-NE; c. 5m NW-SE) depicted on 1842, 1904 and 1935 OS 6-inch maps. Photograph taken 1909 (Grove White 1905-25, vol. 3, opp. 83) shows two-tiered turret, ground floor appears to be rectangular in plan with semicircular archway (long axis NE-SW), carrying 1-storey tower (possibly circular or octagonal) of slimmer proportions with bluntly pointed window ope on SW side. In foreground of photograph (ibid.) are the substantial basement remains of house, Old Dromore, indicated c. 40m SW of tower on 1842, 1904 and 1935 OS 6-inch maps; probably remains of house built c. 1779 by Lord Muskerry, who according to tradition, knocked down house after only one night's occupation to repay construction debts (ibid., 83).
