  Roadside, just NW of Coachford village; square graveyard (c. 40m N-S; c. 40m E-W) enclosed by stone-faced earthen bank to N and E, and by retaining stone wall to S and W. In N half, ruin of C of I parish church of Magourney (CO072-006003-), on site of earlier parish church (CO072-006001-). Still in use; earliest inscribed headstone noted dated 1724, some low uninscribed gravemarkers also noted. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997).   Description

  In Coachford, in N half of graveyard (CO072-006002-). Ruins of C of I parish church of Magourney; on site of earlier church (CO072-006001-) which was in ruins in 1615 (Brady 1863, vol. 2, 249). Church consists of rectangular nave (int.: 14.5m E-W; 5.55m N-S) with unusually elaborate tower at W end and semicircular apse (int. : 4.3m N-S; 3m E-W) at E end. Church entered through door in W wall of tower. Nave lit by four tall round-headed windows in S wall. Wide segmental chancel arch gives access to shallow chancel in apse, with segmental-headed window embrasure at E end; chancel now railed off for burial plot of antiquarian Herbert Webb Gillman; chest tomb and other 19th-century burial memorials in nave. Tower consists of central 3-storey tower flanked by lower side chambers (overall: 3.3m E-W; 9.45m N-S), creating an imposing facade with clasped buttresses on all corners, battlements, blind niches, and other neo-Gothic embellishments. Nave and tower probably that described as 'a new parish church' in 1750 (Smith 1750, vol. 1, 177); chancel probably added when church repaired in 1818 (Brady ibid., 251). New C of I parish church, named 'Christ Church' built immediately across road in mid-19th century: gabled nave and chancel with bellcote on W gable; still in repair and now in private use.   Description

  Freestanding Gothic Revival double-height former Church of Ireland church, built c.1860, comprising five-bay nave, single-bay chancel to east having lean-to vestry to rear (north) elevation, gable-fronted entrance porch to front (south) and lean-to outshot to side (west). Now in use as house. Pitched slate roofs having cut limestone gable copings with finials, limestone bellcote to western gable and corbelled limestone eaves course. Cast-iron rainwater goods and recent rooflights. Dressed limestone walls with corner buttresses having tooled limestone quoins and chamfered capping stones. Pointed arch window openings with cut limestone block-and-start surrounds and chamfered sills to nave, having quarry glazed windows with stained glass margins, lead-lined stained glass windows to side (west) elevation of nave. Pointed arch window opening with limestone sill course to side (east) elevation having intersecting cut limestone tracery and lead-lined stained glass windows. Paired pointed arch window openings with tooled limestone surrounds and sills to vestry with quarry glazing. Quatrefoil window opening to gable of side (west) elevation of nave having cut limestone surround and fixed single-pane. Pointed arch door opening to porch having cut chamfered limestone surround and hood moulding with timber battened door and limestone steps. Shouldered square-headed door opening to vestry with cut limestone surround and timber battened door opening to limestone steps. Square-profile cut limestone gate piers with chamfered corners and peaked caps to east of site. Graveyard to west. Set within own grounds.

  Description

  Freestanding Church of Ireland church, built c.1780, comprising three-stage entrance tower to front (west) with flanking porches, four-bay nave and apse to rear (east). Now ruinous and roofless. Dressed stone eaves course to nave and apse having rendered crenellated parapets to tower and porches with rendered corner-sited plinths, remnants of stone pinnacles to tower. Roughcast render over rubble stone walls, having cut limestone stringcourses and circular and semi circular recesses to upper-stage of tower and side (north, south) elevations of porches. Round-headed window openings with roughly dressed stone voussoirs to nave, porches and tower. Oculus window opening to ground-stage of tower. Camber-headed window opening with dressed voussoirs to chancel. Pointed arch door opening with cut limestone surround to front elevation of tower. Segmental-headed chancel arch with cut limestone voussoirs to interior. Square-profile rubble stone gate piers to front of site within rubble stone boundary wall. Set back from road within own grounds.
