Description
In pasture, on S-facing slope. Depicted on 1842 OS 6-inch map as hachured circular enclosure; on 1937 OS 6-inch map as hachured circular raised area (diam. c. 30m). Levelled; roughly circular area (35.6m E-W; 32m N-S) enclosed by low rise (H 0.5m); external fosse (D 0.15m) S->W. Inner face of rise slopes down gently towards centre, giving saucer-shaped appearance to interior. Field boundary bisects enclosure on N-S axis. Description
In pasture, on NW-facing slope. Roughly circular area (28.7m E-W; 24.5m N-S) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.85m), with external fosse NNW->NE; outer earthen bank (H 1.35m) SSW->NNW. Break in inner bank to NE (Wth 1m) and to ESE (Wth 1m). One half of interior planted with coniferous trees, other half overgrown with bushes. Bank appears to have been pushed out to NW where joined by field boundary, now levelled. Possible souterrain (CO022-263---) in interior. Depicted as lozenge shaped enclosure on 1842 OS 6-inch map and listed as moated site by Barry (1981, 83, no 40). In pasture, undergoing reclamation. Very large spread of burnt material, circular at E end (22m N-S), with linear extension to W (overall L 75m E-W; 7m N-S at W end). Description
In pasture, on S-facing slope. Circular area (40.5m E-W) enclosed by overgrown, earthen bank (int. H 1.05m; ext. H 1m), except to SE where scarp (H 1.4m) exists; external fosse survives to N as shallow depression. Break (Wth 3.4m) in bank to SW; modern gap (Wth 3.6m) to NNE. Remains of limekiln in bank to S.
