  Description

  In pasture, on N-facing slope, overlooking Dalua River valley. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure on 1842, 1905 and 1937 OS 6-inch maps; skirted by field boundaries N->W on 1937 OS 6-inch map. Levelled; circular area defined by growth of furze bushes indicates site. At NW edge of site is circular depression (diam. c. 3m; D 1.3m); S half stone lined; stones vitrified and earth burnt red; appears to be remains of limekiln (CO023-060003-). Visited by OPW on 26-02-1969 at landowner's request prior to destruction of fort; recorded circular area enclosed by substantial earthen bank (int. H 1.5m), with external fosse (Wth at base 1.5m) skirted by modern fence to S. At time of recording, bank had been recently levelled to N and E (ibid.). Recorded by Bowman (1934, 190-191) as double-ramparted fort in T. Lane's. Souterrain (CO023-06002-) in interior. • CO023-060002 Souterrain
  Description

  In ringfort (CO023-06001-). Bowman (1934, 191) noted that 'on the east and south sides of the inner rampart, and on the fosse side of it, were Souterrains built into the rampart. These are now practically destroyed. Each formed, approximately, a semicircle, the chord being c. 14ft'. Also in interior of fort on S side, he recorded a 'depression - the site of a souterrain' (ibid.). Ringfort levelled; no visible surface trace.   Description

  This lime kiln is referred to in the 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork - vol. 4 North Cork' (2000, 296) under the entry (no. 12650) for a rath (CO023-060001-). The lime kiln is referred to in the entry as follows: At the NW edge of the rath (CO023-060001-) is a circular depression (diam. c. 3m; D 1.3m), the S half of which is stone lined. The stones are vitrified and the earth burnt red. This appears to be the remains of a limekiln. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
