  Description

  Sub-circular platform (21m E-W; 20.5m N-S) on W side of stream gully, above clay cliffs. Westropp (1921, 109-110) describes 'curved fosse' to N and W through which laneway runs to rockey shore. Fosse eroded away on W side; enlarged on N side cutting into interior, landward side stone-faced. Interior level; summer house (wooden) at centre. According to local information fosse to N enlarged when house built c. 20-30 years ago; locally known as 'the lios'. Westropp (ibid) met an old man who heard it called 'the Doon' in his boyhood. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994).
