  Description

  In tillage, above stream. Shown on 1842 and 1902 OS 6-inch map as dotted circular enclosure (diam. c. 60m), named 'fort, site of'. Levelled; circular raised area defined by scarp, steepest to W, crowned by low rise. Entrance to SE. Interior saucer-shaped. This may be fort of 'Liscrally' where, according to Lewis (1837 vol 1, 377), 'are the remains of an old circular fort defended by a rampart and fosse...it contains subterraneous passages (CO112-006001-), which extend all around the mound'. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994).
