  Description

  In Belgooly, indicated as large flour mill on 1842 OS 6-inch map immediately NW of Starch mill (which no longer survives). Flour mill erected in 1832. Incorporated into distillery in late 1870s when it was converted to corn store. Distillery closed in late 1880s and fittings scrapped (Kinsale Newsletter 1989). Single large 6-storey mill survives, similar in L-shaped plan to mill shown on 1842 OS 6-inch map. Half-hipped roof removed; front elevation (S) collapsed. Rock-cut wheel-pit (Wth c. 4m) along E elevation. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.   Description

  Four-arch rubble limestone bridge, built c.1850, spanning River Stick. Round-headed arches with dressed limestone voussoirs and soffits springing from rubble limestone piers with rendered V-cutwaters to east elevation. Rubble limestone spandrels and parapet walls with solider limestone coping, dressed string course and inscribed limestone name and date plaque. Section of parapet to east elevation having concrete repairs.

• Church of the Sacred Heart, church/chapel, 1900–1920 · Regional interest
  Description

  Freestanding gable-fronted double-height Roman Catholic church, built c.1910, comprising three-bay nave with single-bay breakfront with bellcote to front (north-east). Gable-fronted single-bay projection to side (north-west) elevation and canted bay hipped roofed projection and gable-fronted single-bay sacristy, with flat-roofed breakfront and recent addition to side (south-east) elevation. Single-bay chancel with recent addition to rear (south-west). Pitched copper clad roofs having copper clad gable copings, concrete eaves course and cast-iron and uPVC rainwater goods. Arcaded moulded rendered eaves course to front elevation. Rendered bellcote having steel cruciform finial. Snecked limestone walls having chamfered concrete plinth. Concrete buttresses with chamfered copings to gables and nave. Concrete string courses and quoins to breakfronts and canted bay. Concrete corbel surmounted by statue and canopy with cruciform finial to front elevation. Single, bipartite and tripartite window openings having chamfered concrete sills, block-and-start surrounds, voussoirs and mullions having quarry-glazed and lead-lined stained glass windows. Recessed round-headed door opening within concrete surround to front elevation, having engaged marble columns surmounted by moulded archivolt, with double-leaf timber battened doors. Round-headed door opening to side, with concrete block-and-start surround and voussoirs, having tympanum. Pair of timber battened timber doors with cast-iron furniture. Exposed timber trussed roof springing from moulded rendered corbels to interior. Rendered and exposed rubble stone walls having round-headed recesses. Carved marble altar furniture to chancel. Rusticated concrete enclosing walls with square-profile gate piers, having moulded render copings and caps with wrought-iron double-leaf gates.

  Description

  Detached nine-bay two-storey house, built c.1880, having later two-bay two-storey returns and recent flat-roofed extension to rear (north-west). Pitched slate roofs having rendered chimneystacks and eaves course and cast-iron rainwater goods. Rendered walls, with exposed rubble stone wall to section of rear elevation. Red brick walls to returns. Square- and camber-headed window openings with tooled limestone sills throughout, with six-over-six, nine-over-six and two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows. Square-headed door openings throughout, having replacement timber panelled doors and stained glass overlights. Former round-headed door opening with recently inserted replacement square-headed door opening to rear elevation. Attendant outbuildings to rear, having pitched gables and cast-iron rainwater goods. Rendered and partially exposed rubble limestone walls. Camber-headed window openings having limestone sills, partially exposed yellow brick voussoirs and remains of timber frames. Square- and camber-headed door openings having remains of timber battened doors. Rubble limestone enclosing walls having square-profile coursed brick and limestone gate piers, moulded rendered caps, single- and double-leaf wrought-iron gates and timber battened gate.

  Description

  Detached six-bay six-storey former flour mill, built 1832, having single-bay two-storey addition with integral carriage arch to side (north-west). Later in use as corn store and distillery. Now ruinous. Remains of pitched slate roofs with rendered chimneystack. Rendered rubble stone walls having dressed of stone quoins. Camber-headed window openings with limestone sills surmounted by slate hung panels. Camber-headed door openings. Pointed arch carriage arch, having red brick block-and-start surround and voussoirs to two-storey addition. Rubble limestone enclosing walls, having square-profile gate piers with rendered caps and wrought-iron double-leaf gates.
