  Description

  Roadside, built into S-facing slope. Front (Wth 5.5m) S-facing; arched recess (H 2.1m; Wth 2.2m; D 1.9m) with cut-stone voussoirs. Top of kiln enclosed by wall, ope in N wall blocked with stones; interior overgrown. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. • CO044-087 Excavation - miscellaneous
  Description

  Discovered in 2002 and subsequently excavated in 2003 in advance of the construction of the N8 Rathcormac-Fermoy Bypass. Nineteen pits, eight post-holes, six stake-holes, and a range of cultivation furrows were discovered. There was no apparent pattern to the post- and stake-holes, many of which occurred in isolation. A concentration of twelve small pits (av. diam. 0.3m; av. D 0.3m) with similar dimensions was recorded towards the S end of the excavated area. These pits contained heat-shattered stone. Three pieces of metal slag were recovered from one of the pits. (O'Connell 2006j, 68) The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
