  In rough grazing land, largely covered with gorse and ferns, on the N shore of Bere Island. According to local information, this is the location of a 'cillíneach' or children's burial ground.   Description

  In rough grazing, on a terrace on a N-facing slope with commanding views N over Berehaven Harbour and the Caha Mountains. A roughly circular, slightly raised area (14m E-W; 13m N-S) is defined by the intermittent remains of a mainly gorse-covered earthen bank (Wth 1.2m; H 0.2m). The level interior is in pasture.   Description

  Detached three-bay single-storey officer's house, built c.1900, having projecting single-bay block to east end of south elevation. Now vacant. Flat rendered roof having rendered cornice and rendered chimneystacks with cornice. Randomly coursed rubble stone, rendered and red brick walls with plinth, red brick impost course and iron ventilation apertures. Red brick battlement-style projection to south elevation east block with red brick consoles. Square-headed blocked openings with rendered sills and red brick block-and-start surrounds. Square-headed door opening with timber battened door and red brick surround.

  Detached gable-fronted single-bay single-storey gymnasium, built c.1915, with seven-bay side elevations and single-bay lean-to block (west). Barrel corrugated-iron roof with timber eaves and uPVC rainwater goods. Corrugated-iron walls having rendered blocks to side elevations and corners, with horizontal and vertical plat bands (east elevation). Red brick walls to west elevation and lean-to block. Rendered quoins to south-west corner. Roughcast rendered base courses. Square-headed openings with two-over-two timber sliding sash windows and timber sills (north). Square-headed openings with one-over-one timber fixed pane windows and timber sills (south). Square-headed opening to east elevation with timber fixed pane window, timber surround and sill.   Freestanding irregular-plan battery, built 1904. Earthen, natural rock and rendered construction comprising east, central and west gun posts (south) with interior buildings and enclosing ditch. Now disused. Gun posts having gun fixings (centre and east) accessed by rendered walkways and flights of steps. Cast-iron railing and wall fixings to gun posts. Entrance (north) through walkway cut into natural rock outcrop. Interior central attached fifteen-bay single-storey building with flanking flights of steps (east and west). Red brick and rendered walls. Flat roof with rendered parapet, coping stones and cast-iron railing accommodating walkway. Square-headed openings with two-over-two timber sliding sash windows, concrete sills and cast-iron window guards. Square-headed door openings. Central segmental-headed door opening. Five-bay single-storey lookout to north-east of interior having bow-fronted north elevation. Flat chamfered rendered roof with rendered eaves course. Rendered walls. Square-headed openings with cast-iron window guards. Square-headed splayed openings to north elevation. Square-headed door opening. Shower block to west of lookout comprising rendered and red brick walls.

  Freestanding irregular-plan former redoubt, built 1904, comprising earthen banks, revetment and interior buildings. Now in use as military training ground. Revetment comprising roughcast rendered battered walls having rendered flights of steps with render, steel and wrought-iron railing parapet and beat area above revetment buildings to east, south and west. East and west buildings comprise round-headed openings with red brick surrounds, timber tympanums having timber louvres and vents, timber battened doors and rendered sills to tympanums. Square-headed door openings to east and west. Round-headed door opening to south. Redoubt entrance to north. Eleven-bay single-storey building to north-west of interior, having chamfered north-east corner and single-bay break front. Flat rendered roof with render and red brick parapet, rendered eaves course and cast-iron rainwater goods. Red brick walls. Square-headed blocked openings with chamfered rendered sills, rendered lintels and cast-iron window guards. Square-headed door opening with single and double-leaf timber battened doors, blocked overlights and chamfered rendered lintels. Building accessed by rendered flight of steps. Four-bay single-storey lookout to south-east beat area having single-bay break front (north-west) and canted bay (south-east). Rendered flat roof with rendered parapet and cast-iron rainwater goods. Rendered walls with red brick vertical plat bands. Square-headed openings with rendered sills, timber casement windows and cast-iron window guards. Square-headed door opening with timber frame. Timber beam ceiling to interior. Later steel construction to west beat area having rendered walls with rounded coping and wrought-iron gate. Recent corrugated-iron mono-pitched store to south. Low rectangular platform to centre of beat area.

Rendered walls to upper level, having rendered quoins and block-and-start surrounds. Square-headed openings with concrete sills and replacement uPVC windows. Square-headed door openings with timber glazed and replacement uPVC doors. Rubble tone boundary walls with piers and wrought-iron gates to all sides.

Camber-headed opening to west elevation with blocked timber window and raised render block-and-start surround. Camber-headed door opening to north elevation with double-leaf timber battened door and raised render block-and-start surround with keystone. Rendered slipway to north.
