  Square tower (3.5m E-W; H c. 11m) on rock outcrop overlooking Crookhaven. Indicated on OS 6-inch map (1842) as 'Tower'. Four storey; 1st floor door in N wall; hood mouldings over 3rd floor windows. Embattled parapet walls. Similar later tower (CO147-057---) visible to NE. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.   Description

  Late 19th century square tower (2.6m N-S; 2.6m E-W; wall thickness 0.6m; H c. 9m) on rock outcrop overlooking Crookhaven to S. Three-storey; 1st floor door in N wall, approached by stone stairs.   Detached three-bay two-storey house, built c.1920, with porch to front (north) and recent extensions to rear (south). Hipped slate roofs having red brick chimneystacks and cast-iron and recent metal rainwater goods. Painted smooth rendered walls. Square-headed openings with one-over-one timber sliding sash windows and concrete sills. Square-headed opening to west elevation with nine-over-nine timber sliding sash window having coloured margins and concrete sill. Square-headed door opening with timber battened door. Outbuildings to south and east. Situated within rubble stone walls with rendered gate piers and stone stile.

• Signal tower, 1790–1810 · Regional interest
  Description

  Freestanding square-plan single-bay three-stage signal tower, built c.1800, now in ruins. Rubble stone and rough cast rendered walls. Square-headed blind openings to north, west and south. Square-headed openings with label mouldings. Square-headed door opening to first floor of north elevation.

  Description

  Detached irregular-plan two-storey house, built in several phases. Comprising four-bay two-storey block with later gablet and box window additions, built c.1800, gable-fronted single-bay two-storey block attached to north (possibly former fortified house), single-bay single-storey terminating block to north, and having L-plan block with gablets and box window, c.1860, attached to south-west. Pitched slate and artificial slate roofs with red brick and rendered chimneystacks, cast-iron and uPVC rainwater goods and carved timber bargeboards with trefoil decoration. Painted lined-and-ruled rendered walls with slate hanging to north elevation and to west elevations. Painted brick to box window plinths. Square-headed openings to east and west elevations with single and paired six-over-six timber sliding sash windows having timber shutters with stone and concrete sills. Square-headed openings to east elevation with double-leaf timber fixed pane casement windows and stone sills. Square-headed openings to gabled front having timber fixed pane and casement windows with stone sills. Square-headed openings to west elevation having single and double casement and fixed pane windows and concrete sills. Square-headed opening to north elevation with timber fixed pane window and rendered surround. Square-headed door opening with timber battened door and timber surround. Located within overgrown landscaped gardens and enclosed by rubble stone and roughcast rendered walls with tooled limestone piers, plinths and pyramidal cap stones. Outbuilding to north-west.

  Freestanding circular-plan two-stage lighthouse with metal lantern, built 1843, incorporating fabric of earlier lighthouse. Recent two-bay single-storey associated entrance building (north-east). Painted ashlar stone walls with stone platform having cast-iron balustrade surrounding lantern and supported on corbels. Lantern comprising metal sheeting with red glazing, set on ashlar granite plinth. Square-headed openings with eight-over-eight timber siding sash windows and stone sills. Square-headed door openings with timber battened doors. Stone flags and rubble stone walls with granite coping surrounding building. Accessed by tooled limestone flight of steps.

  Detached two-bay single-storey former lighthouse keeper’s house, built 1863, with recent lean-to extension (north). Now in use as private house. Pitched slate roof with tooled limestone chimneystacks and plat bands, dressed limestone coping, cast-iron rainwater goods and recent rooflights. Smooth rendered walls with tooled limestone plinth. Square-headed openings with replacement windows and doors. Square-headed door opening with timber panelled door, overlight, tooled limestone step and chamfered surround. Enclosed with limestone flagstones by lime washed rubble stone walls having granite coping.

Enclosed in tooled limestone yard by lime washed rubble stone walls with granite coping (north) and iron railings (south). Outbuilding to east with single pitched roof, painted rendered walls and square-headed openings.

  Pair of semi-detached three- and four-bay two-storey former lighthouse keeper's houses with gable-fronted porches, built 1896. Now in use as private houses. Pitched slate roofs with central painted rendered chimneystack, coping and cast-iron rainwater goods. Carved bird finials to east porch. Painted rendered walls with rendered plinths, corbels, eaves courses and ventilation apertures. Square-headed openings having six-over-six and two-over-two timber sliding sash windows with stone sills. Square-headed door openings with timber battened doors.

  Pair of two freestanding gable-fronted former boathouses, built c.1820, now in use as stores. West boathouse comprises pitched corrugated iron roof, rubble stone and roughcast rendered walls and crenulated gable fronts with overhanging coping stones, pilasters, plat bands, rectangular decorative recesses and finial. Cruciform opening to gable front (south). Square-headed door opening with timber recess and lintel. Lean-to extension (east). East boathouse comprises rubble stone and roughcast rendered walls with crenulated elevations having coping stones and corner pilasters. Square-headed openings with timber lintels and sills. Entablatures to eaves courses. Painted smooth rendered walls with rendered plinth, sill course and quoins. Plinth and blind moulded oculus to water tower. Square-headed openings with two-over-two timber sliding sash windows, stone sills and moulded rendered surrounds.
