  Description

  In pasture, c. 50m NW of ringfort (8573). Stone (H 1.6m; 1.0m x 0.6m) is rectangular in plan, long axis N-S. A number of scorings, apparently artificial, noted on its upper surface. These were thought to be ogham inscriptions by Brash (1879, 152) but were rejected by Macalister (1945, 121), although he did not see them himself. Hartnett (1939, 122) and Brash (ibid.) also noted 'several cup-marks on its eastern face'. Cup-marked stone (CO072-146---) c. 5.5m to W.   In pasture, on N-facing slope. Roughly circular, slightly raised area (diam. c. 35m) enclosed by low bank (int. H 0.3m; ext. H 1.15m); shallow external fosse visible NNE->E. Bank heavily overgrown SE->SSW and separated from remainder of enclosure by field boundary crossing interior on NE-SW axis. Interior heavily overgrown to S of field boundary; to N used as dump for farm yard manure. Standing stone (CO059-101002-) and cup-marked stone (CO072-146----) in same field to NW of site.   In pasture, on shoulder of gentle slope on S side of Lee River valley. One stone has fallen and rests against erect stone; it measures 5.3m by 1.25m and is 1.2m T. Erect stone leans markedly to S; it is 0.95m L, 0.8m T and, if erect, 3.3m. Large boulder (1.3m by 1m) lies 1.7m N of erect stone.   In pasture. Upright stone (H 1.09m; 1.9m x 0.35m), roughly rectangular in shape; long axis NNW-SSE. Leaning against NNE face is second stone (L 1.1m; Wth 0.65m). Hartnett (1939, 123) recorded second stone lying on ground near upright stone. According to Conlon (1917, 160), the 'two galláns' were 'touching one another'.   Description

  In pasture. Roughly circular area (diam. 36.5m) defined by two earthen banks (H 1m) with deep intervening fosse. Banks partially overgrown with furze bushes; causewayed entrance to SW. Souterrain (CO072-070002-) in interior. Four stones forming a line outside enclosure to NE may be remains of field boundary marked on 1904 OS 6-inch map (Hartnett 1939, Fig. XXIX, 1).   Description

  In SW quadrant of ringfort (CO072-070001-). Discovered in 1865 by A. Lane-Fox (Pitt-Rivers) (Twohig 1987, 43). McCarthy (1977, 309-10) described quadrangular earth-cut chamber (L 4.5m; Wth 2.43m; H 0.6m; long axis N-S) roofed with two courses of capstones. Capstones supported by six pillars placed longitudinally in rows of three in chamber; first course of capstones laid transversely, second laid longitudinally (three of these have ogham inscriptions: (CO072-070003-, CO072-070004-, CO072-070005). Possible second chamber at N end not explored. Entrance at NW end of chamber, partially closed by slab, to earth-cut passage (L 4.57m; Wth 1.21m; H 0.54m) which slopes gently upwards to surface. Passage runs W initially, then bends to SW. Possible second chamber at N end of chamber 1 not explored. Souterrain now closed up; ogham stones in British Museum. Macalister (1945, 123-4, no. 126) described the inscription as cut in an unusual way: 'it begins in the middle of the sinister angle, and runs down to the bottom; then crosses to the bottom of the dexter angle and runs up and on to the top'.   Description

  In pasture. Stone (max. H 1.4m), aligned approximately N-S, leans heavily to S. Lying at base of W face is second stone (L 0.9m; Wth 0.35m); 0.7m further to SSW and NW are two stones lying on ground (1.1m apart) 1.2m and 1.3m in length. Hartnett (1939, 123) described 4 stones, 2 standing and remaining pair (Band C) lying 'loosely' on ground. 'In the accompanying plan (missing) I have show what I took to be the probable position of the stones "B" and "C". The 'outline is suggestive of a circle, with perhaps a stone missing' (ibid.).
