No visible surface trace of site; according to local information, levelled c. 1956. Fosse visible as cropmark in aerial photograph (CASAP).   Description

  In low-lying marshy ground, c. 150m E of Awbeg River. Circular, slightly raised area (22.1m N-S; 19.2m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.35m); external fosse (D 0.6m). Entrance (Wth 2m) to S. Interior mainly grass-covered; mature trees growing on bank and edge of interior. Not a typical location for ringfort.   In pasture, on W-facing slope, c. 200m SSE of Velvetstown House (14938) and c. 100 N of New Velvetstown House. Shown as tree ring on 1842 OS 6-inch map; as hachured circular raised area on 1937 OS 6-inch map. Oval platform (29.4m E-W; 24m N-S) raised c. 1m above level of surrounding field.   Description

  Renovated mid-18th-century 2-storey house. Entrance front (SW) of 5 bays, central rectangular door ope with cut-limestone surround, hidden behind modern porch. Windows have 18th-century limestone moulded sills and similarly shaped lintels; cut-stone cornice at eaves level. Gable-ended with chimney stacks atop gables; attic windows in gables. Central gabled stairway projection to rear; flanked by lean-to to right and longer gabled addition to left, making overall ground plan L-shaped. Farm buildings to rear. Shell of large 2-storey brick-built house c. 250m to S, built in 1875 by Crofts but burnt in 1895 when family returned to present house (Bence-Jones 1978, 281).   Description

  Ornate cast-iron quadrant entrance gates to Velvetstown House, erected c. 1850, comprising vehicular gates flanked by pedestrian gates. Reeded piers to gates and to outer ends of flanking railings, with finials to tent-profile caps, railings having some wrought-iron details, and gates. S-curved cast-iron plinths to railings.

• Velvetstown House, country house, 1710–1730 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached five-bay two-storey house with attic, built c. 1720, rear having full-height three-bay return to south-east end, lower three-storey central stairs return, and two-storey lean-to additiondation and two-storey addition. Recent porch addition to front entrance. Pitched artificial slate roof with rendered stacks to gables, front elevation having carved limestone cornice with cut limestone band below, and replacement galvanized rainwater goods. Tiled catslide roof to lean-to addition. Roughcast rendered walls with rendered plinth. Hipped slate roof to porch. Square-headed window openings with cut limestone sills, having moulded limestone sills and lintels to front elevation, replacement timber and uPVC windows throughout, with stained-glass window to stairs return. Central square-headed door opening with cut limestone surround obscured by porch. Farmyard to rear having nine-bay two-storey farm buildings to north with ellitptical vehicular entrances and throughway having brick and stone voussoirs, and roofless remains of two-storey range to east side. Set in a mature parkland landscape. Late nineteenth-century house to south.

• Velvetstown House, country house, 1870–1880 · Regional interest
  Description

  Remains of detached L-plan two-storey house, built 1875, burnt 1895, having five-bay front, west, elevation, with two-bay off-centre breakfront with entrance bay, two-bay north end having remains of canted-bay windows, recessed five-bay return to north, north-most bay projecting slightly. South wall removed. Yellow brick facing to front and north elevations, having series of red brick bands, with red brick dog tooth course below sill level of first floor, carved limestone courses at ground floor sill and plinth levels, with decorative cut-stone discs between floors, yellow brick brackets to eaves and buttresses to corners, latter of yellow brick and having bands and string courses continuing those of walls proper. Rubble limestone walls to east elevation. Single-light, double-light and triple-light and paired pointed segmental-arch window openings with triple-coursed brick voussoirs, cut limestone keystones and bases to reveals. Triple-light window to east elevation having cut-limestone arrangement to upper half comprising quatrefoil lights over pointed arch lights atop lintels. Ashlar limestone tripartite doorcase, comprising pointed segmental-arch door opening with red brick voussoirs and limestone keystone flanked square-headed sidelights, all openings having chamfered pilasters, having moulded capitals and bases, latter being part of string course, and with decorative carved limestone buttress attached to north. Earlier house to north.
