• DG004-013 Megalithic tomb - unclassified
  Description

  Bonner (1972, 17) recorded the destruction of 'a sort of dolmen' around 50 years earlier at Ballagh. It was said to consist of a large coffin-shaped stone resting on three uprights. The location of the site may be that indicated in the heading (C. O'Rahilly, pers. comm.). A pillar-like stone, 2.2m long, 0.4m broad and 0.2m thick, lies prone on a boggy ridge beside a low upright stone that may be part of the butt of the prostrate stone.   Description

  Detached five-bay two-storey house, built c. 1840, with single-bay single-storey extension, entrance porch to front elevation and small breakfront porch to rear. Pitched slate roof with three smooth rendered chimneystacks with rendered coping and octagonal pots; rendered gable coping and cast-iron rainwater goods. Roughcast rendered walls with smooth rendered quoins to porch. Square-headed window openings with six-over-six timber sash windows and painted sills. Three-over-three timber sashes to porch. Square-headed door opening to porch with glazed timber door. Set in own grounds with single-storey annex to west. Site bounded by low roughcast rendered wall with sloping smooth rendered coping, wrought-iron gate mounted on smooth rendered ruled-and-lined piers with rendered pyramidal coping. Single-storey outbuildings to west and rear of house. wrought-iron gates mounted on large stone gate piers to south and east of house.

  Description

  Detached five-bay single-storey house, built c. 1820, with advanced entrance porch to front. Pitched slate roof with clayware ridge tiles, smooth rendered gable coping, stone finial to north gable, low smooth rendered chimneystack to south gable, and cast-iron rainwater goods. Roughcast rendered walls. Square-headed window openings with cast-iron latticed and margined glazing within timer frames, with stone sills; modern window to gable. Square-headed door opening with double-leaf timber panelled door. Set within grounds shared with larger house (40900416).
