  Description

  Internal diam. 25m. A circular space enclosed by a substantial earthen bank surviving to a height of over 1m. There are slight indications of a fosse i.e. a rush-filled depression. The bank is overgrown with trees and bushes. It is situated on the crest of a slight ridge and commands good views. The surrounding land is good. • The Thatch, house, 1800–1840 · Regional interest
  Description

  Attached three-bay two-storey vernacular house, built c. 1820, with single-storey extension(s) to rear (north-west). Possibly formerly in use as a shop. Pitched reed thatch roof with chicken wire and exposed scallops to ridge; cement rendered chimneystacks to gable ends (south-west and north-east). Projecting eaves course. Smooth rendered walls with raised smooth rendered quoin bands to corners. Square-headed window openings with chamfered reveals, painted sills and replacement windows. Central square- headed door opening with chamfered reveal and replacement door. Fronts directly onto street towards the east/north-east end of Bundoran.

• Allied Irish Bank, bank/financial institution, 1870–1940 · Regional interest
  Description

  Attached three-bay three-storey bank, built c. 1875 or in 1939, having two-storey return and single-storey over basement extension to rear (north-west). Window opening to centre at ground floor level now partially infilled with ATM machine added. Pitched artificial slate roof hidden by ashlar sandstone parapet having moulded cornice with moulded corbels. Ashlar sandstone chimneystacks to either end (south-west and north-east) having moulded cornices; additional rendered chimneystack to the north-east end. Ashlar sandstone walls; engaged Tuscan pilasters crowned by cornices and with entablature over to ground floor. Segmental-headed window openings with keystones over, roll mould reveals and having one-over-one horned timber sash windows, fixed lights to ground floor. Moulded architraves to first floor openings; moulded hoodmouldings to openings at second floor level having stringcourse at window arch springing point. Cut stone sills throughout, sill course to ground floor. Segmental-headed door opening to south-west end of main elevation having moulded ashlar sandstone surround with keystone over, timber double doors, and plain overlight. Modern concrete access ramp and steps with railings to entrance. Road-fronted to the centre of Main Street, Bundoran.

• Campbell Memorial Methodist Church, church/chapel, 1880–1890 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached five-bay single-storey former Methodist chapel, dated 1888, having gable-fronted porch attached to the south end of the east of nave. Now in use as a restaurant with modern glazed lean-to entrance porch attached to the south gable end and extensions to the east and west elevations of nave. Pitched natural slate roof with rasied ashlar sandstone gable copings having fleur-de-lis finials over gable apexes (main body of building and to porch), moulded sandstone kneeler stones to gables and having moulded (cavetto) eaves course to east and west elevations. Replacement rainwater goods. Rendered chimneystacks to gable ends of main body of building. Snecked squared rubble sandstone walls having flush squared dressed sandstone quoins to corners. Stepped clasping buttresses to corners having ashlar coping over and ashlar quoins. Paired round-headed window openings to nave elevations and to south gable end having moulded sandstone surrounds, leaded coloured glass windows, cut stone plate tracery with round top light, and cut stone hoodmouldings over with foliated label stops. Windows to nave side elevation now largely obscured by modern extensions; window openings to south gable now partially infilled and obscured by modern porch. Oculus open with chamfered cut stone surround to gable apex to south. Square-headed window opening to south face of porch having chamfered cut sandstone reveals and leaded coloured glass windows. Square-headed door opening to east face of porch having chamfered dressed sandstone surround with shouldered lintel, and timber panelled door. Carved semi-circular memorial and date plaque over doorway having cut stone hoodmoulding over with foliated label stops. Set back from the street on raised site towards the centre of Bundoran having tarmac forecourt to south. Concrete steps to site. Squared rubble stone plinth boundary wall to road-frontage to the south having chamfered dressed stone coping and cast-iron railings over having fleur-de-lis finials. Boundary wall to road-frontage terminated to either end (south-west and north-east) by squared coursed dressed sandstone piers (on square-plan) having chamfered coping over. Gateway to south having paired cast- and wrought iron gates with fleur-de-lis finials over; pedestrian gateway to the east end of boundary wall having cast- and wrought iron gate with fleur-de-lis finals over and open iron gate post to the west end having urn finials over. Rubble sandstone boundary wall to the east side of site having crenellated coping over.

• The Shell House, shop/retail outlet, house, 1870–1940 · Regional interest
  Description

  Attached three-bay two-storey house and retail outlet, built c. 1880 and altered c. 1935, having shopfront to ground floor. Now in use as betting office and house with extension to rear. Pitched artificial (fibre cement) slate roof having rendered chimneystacks to either end (south-west and north-east), moulded render convex eaves course, and cast-iron rainwater goods. Cement rendered walls having applied sea shell and crockery mosaic decoration to front elevation, added c. 1935. Plain rendered plinth to base. Square-headed window openings with rendered architraved surrounds and replacement windows. Square-headed doorway to the north-east end of the front elevation (south-east) having rendered architraved surround, replacement timber door, and glazed sidelights and overlight. Shopfront to the south-west end of front elevation having engaged timber pilasters over cement rendered plinth blocks, and with timber brackets over supporting timber fascia with cornice. Applied sea shell, crockery mosaic decoration and name tiles spelling ‘M. PHILLIPS’ to fascia. Recessed square-headed doorway to centre of shopfront having replacement timber glazed door. Doorway flanked to either side by replacement fixed-pane display windows. Decorative glazed tiles to base of stallrisers. Road-fronted to the centre of Bundoran.

• Saint Louis's Convent, convent/nunnery, 1890–1900 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached seven-bay two-storey former convent with attic storey, built 1891-2, having advanced central gable-fronted bay to main elevation (east) having bellcote/statue niche over with trefoil-headed opening containing statue, and projecting single-bay gable-fronted entrance porch to projecting bay. Single-, split-level, and two-two storey wings and extensions to the rear (west), a number built c. 1950. Now out of use and derelict. Pitched artificial slate (fibre cement) roof with raised cut stone coping to gable ends (north and south) having cut stone kneeler stones to eaves with gabled finials/capstones over, and with Celtic cross finials to gable apexes. Central pair of yellow brick chimneystacks and with bracketed eaves course having cast-iron rainwater goods over. Moulded coping over bellcote/statue niche having kneeler stones and with wrought-iron cross finial over. Raised cut stone coping to porch having cut stone kneeler stones to eaves with gabled finials/capstones over. Smooth rendered ruled-and-lined walling over projecting plinth course. Pointed segmental-headed window openings with chamfered reveals at ground floor level of main elevation (east) and shallow segmental-headed window openings with chamfered reveals at first floor level each having continuous moulded render stringcourse forming hoodmouldings over. Continuous moulded sill course at first floor level. Square-headed window openings with chamfered reveals and having continuous moulded render stringcourse forming pointed segmental-headed hoodmouldings over to north gable end at first floor level; moulded stringcourses and square-headed opening to gable ends at attic level having timber louvered vent. Replacement window fittings throughout; ground floor openings and a number at first floor level now blocked. Trefoil-headed opening to front face of porch (east), possibly originally a doorway with overlight but now blocked having hoodmoulding over; pointed segmental-headed door opening to north face of porch having chamfered reveals and timber panelled door. Set back from the road to the south of Main Street, Bundoran, in grounds shared with former convent national school (40851010) to the north; grotto, dated 1914, to east (not viewed), garden to south and remains of various single-storey buildings and outbuildings to site. Site now under construction and access restricted. Rendered boundary wall to the north having rendered gate piers (on square-plan); cast-iron railings over boundary wall to the northwest.
