  Description

  A roughly triangular earthen mound, 11.1m N-S, 8.1m E-W and 13m NW-SE, which survives in places up to 1m high. It was partially dug into some time ago. It is known as a burial ground and is situated on low cultivated ground S of the Ballyboe River. The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal.   Description

  Situated on rough grazing near a disused quarry with views of the Knockbrack Hills to the N and NE and Trawbreaga Bay to the W. A quartzite boulder (1.7m x 1.2m x 0.27m) which has a cup mark enclosed by ten concentric circles, through which two grooves radiate out from the cup-mark at an angle of approximately 160 degrees.   Description

  Testing was carried out by Angela Wallace of Connacht Archaeological Services, under licence No. 08E0226 in advance of two adjacent developments with combined green areas at Drumcarbit, Malin. The southern development area measured 75m north–south by 200m. Test-trenches 1–4 were located in this portion of the development. The northern area for development measured c. 225m north–south by 150m at the southern end and 115m at the northern end. A total of seven test-trenches were excavated using a machine with a grading bucket. Trenches 1 and 2 measured 150m in length east–west. Trench 3 was 70m in length north–south and Trench 4 was 40m in length east–west. Trenches 5–7 were located within the northern area and measured c. 100m in length north–south. No archaeological finds or features were uncovered in Trenches 2–7. A portion of a burnt spread or fulacht fiadh was uncovered within a marshy environment at the west end of Trench 1. The burnt spread measured c. 6m across at its northern end and c. 2–3m in width. This spread was only partially exposed; it appeared to extend further southwards. • Rockville House, house, 1790–1830 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached five-bay two-storey house, built c. 1800, having two-storey canted bay to centre of the main elevation (south-west), and with two-storey flat-roofed extension to the rear (north-west). Possibly formerly in use as a Presbyterian manse. Pitched slate roof with grey clayware ridge tiles, four roughcast rendered chimneystacks with terracotta pots, and with replacement rainwater goods. Flat-roof to rear extension hidden by crenellated parapet. Roughcast rendered walls over smooth rendered plinth course, and with block-and-start render quoins to the corners of the main body of building. Square-headed window openings having smooth rendered reveals, replacement timber casement windows, and with stone sills; continuous sill to canted bay at first floor level. Central square-headed door opening with smooth rendered surround, decorative lintel supported on console brackets, and with replacement timber double-doors. Set back from road in extensive mature landscaped grounds to the east of the centre of Malin. Remains of former walled garden (rectangular-plan) to the south-east of site having rubble stone boundary walls. Gateway (see 40801002), now out of use, to the south-west of site, rubble stone wall to the south-west boundary of site. Ruined remains of walled garden to north-east of site.

• Rockville House, gates/railings/walls, 1840–1900 · Regional interest
  Description

  Gateway (now disused) and boundary wall serving Rockville House (see 40801001), erected. 1860, comprising a pair of smooth rendered random rubble gate piers (on polygonal-plan) having moulded render capping over, and with a pair of hooped wrought-iron gates. Whitewashed random rubble stone wall to east of gateway with rendered coping over to sections. Gateway located to the south-west of Rockville House, and to the east of Malin.

  Description

  Detached four-bay single-storey vernacular house, built c. 1860, having ingle-bay single-storey outbuilding attached to the east gable end. Pitched rounded rope-and-peg straw thatch roof with wrought-iron stays/pegs to eaves, and with two smooth rendered chimneystacks (one to the west gable end and one offset to the east of centre). Roughcast rendered random rubble stone walls. Square-headed window openings with two-over-two pane horned timber sliding sash windows, and with painted concrete sills. Square-headed door opening, offset to the west side of centre, having smooth rendered reveal, and timber matchboard door with brass furnishings. Fronts directly onto the road to the north-east of Malin.

  Attached six-bay single-storey vernacular thatched house, built c. 1855, with windbreak porch to front. Pitched thatch roof, smooth rendered chimneystacks with rendered copings. Smooth rendered and whitewashed walls. Square-headed window openings with timber casement windows and painted sills. Square-headed door opening with battened timber door. Single-storey outbuilding with pitched corrugated tin roof to east gable and detached outbuilding to rear.
