Description
The three editions of the OS 6-inch maps record 'Doonan Fort' here and O. Davies recorded a 'children's burial ground' at the same site. There is no trace of the 'Fort'. Two very ruined walls, both about 10m long, and at right angles, form a S and W side of what may have been a small enclosure. A face of rock on the N side may have served as a third side. The site is a mound of rock, uneven on top and much overgrown by trees and bushes set in undulating land suitable for grazing. A 'Fort' here would almost certainly have been stone built. The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal. A description of the field antiquities of the County from the Mesolithic Period to the 17th century.' Compiled by: Brian Lacey with Eamon Cody, Claire Cotter, Judy Cuppage, Noel Dunne, Vincent Hurley, Celie O'Rahilly, Paul Walsh and Seán Ó Nualláin (Lifford: Donegal County Council, 1983). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated. Date of upload: 22 September 2008
