  An island in Lough Pound appears to have been artificially constructed of stones. Two small 'Piers' project on the NW side. The island 8.5m N-S, 10.4m E-W is covered in vegetation. • DG064-028 Enclosure
  Description

  In pasture, located on a terrace on a rocky ridge overlooking Gweebarra Bay, with Portnoo beach and Inishkeel Island visible to SE. It is overlooked immediately to S−NW by rising ground, broken by rock outcropping. To N the ground slopes away for c. 100m then drops steeply to a rocky shoreline. This enclosure is not shown on the OS 6-inch maps, although the curving field wall which skirts its W side is depicted. Subrectangular area (24.4m E−W; 21m N−S), with rounded corners, defined by a sod-covered stone bank/wall (Wth 1.6-1.8m; int. H 0.2-0.3m; ext. H 0.6-0.65m at E and W), which incorporates large stones and boulders, now largely concealed by sod. The wall appears more substantial on the W side where it is incorporated into a later, now ruined, field wall which extends beyond the enclosure to N and S. On the S arc the wall is built against the rising ridge slope, giving it a pronounced internal slope (int. H 1m) and a very low external lip (ext. H 0.1m). On the E side, where ground falls away gently, the wall is low internally and has a broadly slumped external slope. The wall is rather low (int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.3m) and broken down at N, where there are a few narrow eroded breaks (Wth c. 1m), but no clearly defined entrance gap. The interior is level and grassy. • DG064-029 Enclosure
  Description

  In rough, rocky upland pasture, located on a grassy terrace backed on the S side by a steeply rising slope, broken by rock-outcropping. Ground falls away to NW and N in a series of rough, rocky terraces, and a narrow rocky ravine c. 100m to NW leads W down to the cliff-edged shoreline. Lough Free is located c. 500m to W. A high ridge, Dunmore Hill, rises to N. There is a spring/stream 10m to NW. Low circular platform (13m NW−SE; 12m NE−SW) defined by a scarp (H 0.3m at NE−E; 0.6m SW−W) topped by remnants of a stone bank/wall. The platform is built up on the W half to compensate for the natural fall of ground and create a level interior. The enclosing wall (Wth 1.2−1.4m) consists merely of intermittent stones barely protruding from the sod, representing the inner and outer kerb of the wall. There are relict cultivation ridges on the terrace surrounding the enclosure. • Inisfree House, house, 1900–1920 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached three-bay two-storey house, built c. 1910, having single-storey canted bay windows to either end of the front elevation (east) having flat-roof open porch between with balcony over, two-storey returns to rear (west), modern single-storey flat-roofed extension to the west, and with modern glazed conservatory to the south. Hipped and pitched artificial slate roof with smooth rendered chimneystacks to returns, clay or stone ridge tiles, projecting eaves course, and with some surviving sections of cast-iron rainwater goods. Flat roof over porch and canted bays (roof over porch supported on two round columns) having moulded smooth rendered cornice and decorative metal railings over. Smooth rendered walls over projecting smooth rendered plinth course. Square-headed window openings with stone sills and two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows with exposed reveals. Paired window openings to end bays of front elevation at first floor level. Sill courses to canted bays. Central square-headed doorway having timber panelled door, sidelights, and overlight. Set back from road in own grounds in the rural countryside to the north-west of Ardara; house overlooks Inishkeel Island and Gweebarra Bay to the north and east. Garden to front of site (east). Site bounded by roughcast rendered and smooth rendered boundary walls. Gateway to the south-east comprising a pair of smooth rendered gate piers (on square-plan) having cornice coping and ball finials over, and with a pair of metal gates; name ‘Inisfree House’ painted on gate piers.

• Swan Mount, house, 1850–1890 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached five-bay two-storey double-pile house, built c. 1850 and extended c. 1880, having single-bay single-storey gable-fronted entrance porch to the centre of the original building, built c. 1920, and with single-storey extensions to the rear (west) and attached to the south gable. Pitched natural slate roof with projecting eaves course, stone ridge tiles, surviving sections of cast-iron rainwater goods, and with two central smooth rendered chimneystacks to the original building having stepped cornice coping and clay ware pots over, and with smooth rendered chimneystacks to either end of two-bay two-storey addition to the south having stepped cornice coping and clay ware pots over. Pitched natural slate roof to entrance porch and mono-pitched natural slate roof to extensions. Smooth rendered ruled-and-lined walls over painted plinth course. Square-headed window openings having painted stone sills, and with two-over-two and six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows. Square-headed doorway to the south elevation of porch having timber panelled door. Set back from road in extensive mature grounds to the north-west of Ardara, and located close to the shores of Gweebara Bay to the north. Detached six-bay two-storey outbuilding to the south having pitched natural slate roof, cast-iron rainwater goods, roughcast rendered walls, square-headed openings with mainly timber sliding sash windows, and with square-headed doorways with battened timber doors. Site surrounded by rubble stone boundary wall with large fieldstone coping over. Gateway to the east comprising a pair of gate piers (on square-plan) with chamfered coping over, and with a pair of cast-iron gates.
