• DU011-040 Mound
  Description

  This is an elongated, irregularly shaped mound (dims. L 35m, Wth 20m, H 1.50m). It is marked as a circular earthwork on the OS 1938 map (Healy 1975, 24). Located in undulating large open fields with extensive views. Survives as low mound within buffer zone of rough pasture. Five small granite pillars have been inserted into the mound as an artwork.   Description

  The Down Survey (1655-6) map shows a farm house roughly at the site of a small vernacular building of hearth-lobby type (pers. comm. Barry O'Reilly). Access to the interior is blocked. Located by the roadside on a right angle bend in a low-lying situation. Dwelling has been modernised with a new slate roof dotted with skylights and new render.   Description

  Circular enclosure identified as a crop mark on Bing (viewed 03/01/2015). The enclosure (c.30m diam.) appears to predate a field boundary that formed the western limit of Kit’s Green and the townland boundary between Common and Corrstown. The field boundary has since been removed. It is possible that this site is the ‘supposed site of old Fort or Burying Ground’ marked on the 1st edition OS map.
