  Description

  In reclaimed farmland. Classified by McCaffrey (1952, 148, no. 58) as a circular ‘Stone fort’ (diam. c. 29.3m ext.). The enclosing element consisted of ‘only one face of blocks set on edge’. McCaffrey (ibid.) also noted that the entire site had been used as a quarry. No visible surface trace survives. A souterrain (GA096-001001-) is associated.   Within a possible cashel (GA096-001001-). Described by Wheeler in 1970 as a ‘short length of [a] rock-cut souterrain’. Only one ‘roofing stone’ survived and it was inaccessible (SMR file).   Description

  Detached five-bay two-storey country house, built c.1750, having flanking single-bay single-storey blocks recessed to each gable with half-dormer attic. Now in use as clubhouse. Pedimented entrance breakfront with later gabled porch to front (south) elevation. Single-storey return to rear, having two-storey further block to rear having two-bay first and three-bay ground floors, with further lean-to addition to north gable, and with lean-to addition to east gable of east wing of house proper. Pitched tiled roof to main block, slate roofs elsewhere, having rendered chimneystacks and cast-iron rainwater goods, with belfry to east wing. Recent rooflights to main block, timber bargeboards to dormer windows and to porch. Smooth lined-and-ruled rendered walls having rendered string course to breakfront, stone plinth. Painted roughcast rendered walls to rear elevations. Square-headed window openings having stone sills and six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows, replacement uPVC window to west elevation, two-over-two pane and one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows to rear block. Diocletian window opening to pediment having render hood-moulding and cut-stone sill with spoked timber window. Square-headed door opening to front porch having half-glazed double-leaf timber panelled door, and one-over-one pane timber sliding sash sidelights, with six-over-six pane windows to sides of porch. Square-headed door openings to rear having replacement timber doors and recent uPVC porches with lean-to slate roofs. Square-headed door opening to single-storey extension having timber door with overlight. Recent lean-to entrance porches to rear elevations. Property set within its own grounds having stableyard to rear.

  Description

  L-plan stableyard, dated 1891. East range comprising two-storey block with integral carriage archway to north end and nine-bay single-storey stables to south end. North range comprises fifteen-bay single-storey stableblock having integral carriage archway towards middle and further single-storey stable block to west. Two-storey building has pitched slate roof, gabled half-dormer former pitching doors with timber bargeboards, rendered chimneystack, cast-iron rainwater goods, and square-profile louvered bellcote with pyramidal slate roof and weathervane. Painted smooth rendered walls with painted smooth rendered plinth. Segmental-headed window openings to ground floor, square-headed window openings to first floor with metal-framed windows, all having painted brick block-and-start surrounds. Segmental-headed door openings having block-and-start surrounds and half-glazed and timber doors. Segmental carriage archway having painted brick voussoirs and painted inscribed keystone. Single-storey range to south-east, having pitched corrugated-iron roof, painted rendered walls, and square-headed openings with timber half-doors, segmental-headed openings with painted brick block-and-start surrounds, having two-over-two pane timber sliding sash window and half-door. Single-storey range to north, having pitched corrugated-iron roofs with rendered chimneystacks and cast-iron rainwater goods, painted smooth rendered walls with painted smooth rendered plinth to east end, painted corrugated-iron walls to west end, segmental-headed window openings having block-and-start surrounds, with mixed timber framed and metal-framed windows, square-headed window openings having block-and-start surrounds with timber windows, and segmental-headed and square-headed door openings, having timber battened doors. Located to rear and east of Ballymore Park.
