• GA105-028 Enclosure
  Description

  Some 100m to the NW of a church (GA105-029001-). Marked on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map as a subtriangular enclosure (c. 60m ENE-WSW; max. Wth at W c. 28m; max. Wth at E c. 10m). It is defined by intermittent traces of a collapsed drystone wall (Wth 0.85m; int. H 0.7m; ext. H 0.75m) which are visible at NW, NNE to ESE and from SE to SW. Two holy wells (GA105-029006- and GA105-029007-) and a bullaun stone (GA105-029009-) lie c. 20m to the SE. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 15 February 2019

• GA105-029001 Church
  Description

  In undulating pastureland. This very poorly preserved rectangular church (8.6m E-W; 5.3m N-S; wall T 0.73m) lies in the N sector of a graveyard (GA105-029002-). It is heavily overgrown with trees and only the foundation lines of the walls survive. A later field wall overlies the N wall. No architectural features are evident. There are two holy wells (GA105-029003- and GA105-029004-) in the NE sector of the graveyard. A children’s burial ground (GA105-029008-) lies c. 20m to the E. (McCaffrey 1925 80-81, 254, no. 18).   Description

  In undulating pastureland. This subrectangular graveyard (25.2m E-W; 31.5m N-S) is associated with a church (GA105-029001-) which is located in its N sector. It is delimited by stone walls. The interior is heavily overgrown with trees and nettle. Some possible graveslabs are evident in the W sector. Two holy wells are also associated (see GA105-029003- and GA105-029004-).   Description

  Located in the NE corner of a graveyard (GA105-029002-) associated with a church (GA105-029001-). Holy wells named ‘St. Columbkille’s Holy Wells’ on the OS 6-inch maps consist of two conjoined wells. The most northerly one (GA105-029003-) is oval in plan (L 1.36m; Wth 1.15m; D 1.2m) and defined by a low wall. The southerly well (GA105-029004-) is subrectanular in plan (L 1m; Wth 0.8m; D 0.9m) and is also defined by a wall. Both are overgrown with brambles and trees.
